Don't worry, I missed it too! The salesman said it actually posted last night, but a friend of the general manager had been waiting for a new toy for less than $25,000. Well, needless to say, I think he found a $40,000 toy for $23,500!

Carfax shows one owner and no blemishes of anykind. Don't even think about it, I tried offering more money than the person who already has a deposit on the car and he said he appreciates my interest, but they don't do business that way.

1993 GTS, red with tan leather, 27,000 miles, one owner, no side moldings, completely original, all service history. Dammit!

This smells like an inside deal to me. What do you want to bet that the car was sold on consignment and the owner isn't aware of the true value of the vehicle?

It's still there at the dealership. The person who put a deposit on it won't be picking it up until tomorrow. So, why don't you do a drive by to confirm whether it's a POS or not, maybe even snap a couple of pics and post them.

I'd still like to see what it looks like......................

That's exactly what I was thinking, too.

Sounds like a dealer thing, "friend" of the general manager. What happened is the PO just got a royal shafting. Why advertise a car thats clearly already sold to an insider, if it isn't just for show.

Might be fun to find out the original owner and drop them a note with the offer the dealer refused, to sell it to his friend.

There's no such thing as 'driving by' this dealer. It's a multi-hour deal. You have to fight traffic into and out of Boston.

If this wasn't already sold and someone needed a PPI I might take the half day off. Next time.

I didn't realize it was that far away. Maybe next time, especially if it's still for sale...............................

I'm guessing that it was a trade in for a Mercedes. Herb Chambers owns 26 dealerships in New England. This location is one of his Mercedes dealerships, and I doubt that they sell vehicles on consignment. The price probably came straight out of the book. There are two Chamber's Porsche dealerships, so I'm surprised that they let this slip through though.

So the salesmans story that the general managers friend was looking for a toy under $25K might just hold water afterall. If the dealership is respectable, then they may have just accidentely let one fall thru the cracks. It does happen occasionally, especially to unique cars like the 928 that most people have no idea what they are in the first place, must less have any idea what they're really worth.

About 7 years ago, I bought a '94 polar silver over medium grey GTS, 5 speed with 48,000 miles for only $30,000 from a Porsche dealership in Rhode Island. They had no idea. They placed a one day Sunday ad in the Boston Tribune and I was the first caller Monday morning with my Visa deposit ready. The salesman called me up 2 weeks later when the ad for that car appeared in the Dupont Registry. He said every other call they had was on that car. So, it does happen, believe me!

If that's as nice a car as a 27,000 mile one owner car should be, the new owner basically just won $15,000! Appreciation that is.....................

As much as we like 928's, very very few new car dealers would put this old of a car on the lot. When was the last time anybody on this list has seen a 928 for sale at a Porsche dealership? I looked pretty hard for a month and only found a couple cars on a dealer lot and those were all strictly used car dealers.
