928's in Japan
Just for the hell of it i went on the website of a company that imports cars from Japan to Canada....i had earlier been given a password so i could take a look at the cars going through the auction. Yesterday, there were 4 928's going through.....two of them were GTS's ....a 1993 with 45kms and a 1994 with 74kms....there was also a 1990 S4 with 17Kms on it!....they are all gone today....i did contact the company to see if i can get a price on what they went for....typically, good low mile s4"s go for less than 10,000 CDN. From what i understand, the newest car i can bring into Canada is 15 years old so that would be a 1992 in 2007. My current 87 came from Japan and is a euro model....I suspect the cars on auction yesterday were all euro's.

I believe all cars that went over to Japan were Euros with some minor tweeks for that market. When brought into Canada they're good to sell as they meet spec; not in the US though. I've seen a few of them in Alberta which appear to be in reasonable shape and if thats the general pricing then they're good value.
The 15 year timeframe is so the cars are then classified as 'vintage' or something similar. I think that there are other Cannucks on the List that have past experience, hopefully they'll pipe up.
There's also a dealership in the Van area who deals in former Japanese cars.

An exemption allowed by the Registrar of Import Vehicles ( Transport Canada) provides for legal importation of practically anything at 15 years plus a day form its date of manufacture.
Approx. $300 in small fees and 6.1% excise for European and Asian vehicles are the only additional costs above normal car registry.
The whole process is quite straight forward.

My 1990 GT with 128,000km is from Japan. Also have a 1991 Honda NSR 250 from Japan. Virtually anything can be brought in as long as it is 15 years or older. My GT cost me $19,000 cdn from a guy who brings in all kinds of stuff. Said with the import costs ans a broker in Japan he made "about" $1,000 from me. Check out splendidautos.com in Vancouver for some sweet cars, I'm guessin' from Japan as well.
