My car does this too, and I think the explanation is Porsche's use of an oil-coolant heat-exchanger. The oil heats up first and quickly warms the coolant. Then the coolant takes some of heat out of the oil after both are at operating temp.

Other mfgs wouldn't invest in the added components to try to utilize the different thermal characteristics of the oil and the coolant in this way.

Yup, Heinrich is correct about the 911 (and my 914/6). Instant heat. Burn your feet. Great and simple system blowing air directly over the exhaust and into the cabin.......until your exhaust valves covers leak (they ALL leak unless you use 930 covers). Then you get oil smoke in your face and all over the cabin.

Bigs chooses to live in ice city. We in California live in a warm climate because we are so cool and it offsets the warm climate. I have heated seats but have used them only once or twice. I don't need anything more to get me hot. In fact, I was thinking of seeing a psychiatrist to do something about all my heat . I plan to go to Lake Tahoe after the snow falls, and might need the heated seats then; oops, I might have to take the psychiatrist to warm me up too.

It might be easier to modify a wall thermostat. Something like a Totaltouch, nice display, common cpu, and handfull of 24vac relays.

But won't fit into the exsisting space in the console or send varable signals to the flap motor or read multiple temerature sensors to determine wether to heat or cool, etc, etc
