1982 928S "50 Years of Porsche" - Option code 406

Hi guys,

Here's something I have been thinking about for ages...years in fact. I am the proud owner of a 928S in New Zealand, after checking with Porsche they have confirmed my cars option codes and they include option 406.

Now as I have seen on various sites the code discription is as follows:

406 928S - Anniversary Car , 82 "50 Years of Porsche" - MeteorMetallic w/Burgundy Interior

I've owned the car for about ten years now and was originally imported from Germany, which meant it is left-hand-drive. Now does anyone know how many were made? Are they anything special? As much as it would gut me I could send the car back to Europe or USA to sell (being a LHD) but I'm not sure I can part with her??? (but I am looking at a GT as you my have seen already)

Oh lastly my front seats are both signatured with what I think is "F.Porsche".

Im keen to here your comments?

Carl.

Number 140 is usually mentioned togetger with this special model. Most special feature is stripe cloth in seats and signature. Cloth wasn't used in other 928 than this model. In other ways its just option package. See archives for more conversation. Marton has one in Switzerland and has posted links to brochure pics etc.

this is not to be confused with the weissach model right?

Right. Totally different models, different continents even. M406 is Euro S while M462 Weissach is US 4.5L model. Both were done during same '82 MY though.

HTML Code:

At the end of 1981 Porsche launched a special series of
140 Porsche 928 S cars in a meteor metallic finish to celebrate the
company’s 50th jubilee. These exemplars were luxuriously fitted in
wine red leather and fabric, and the seat backs were embellished
with the ”F. Porsche” logo.

I do not think they have any special value.

My VIN number is WP0ZZZ92ZCS840060 - some people think the fact that it ends in 60 means mine was the prototype. I do not have a list of options. Mine has no sun roof but it does have side strips so it is not much of a prototype - the standard catalog model has sun roof but no side strips.

What is your VIN number?

Nobody knows how many of these 140 are left. It is known that there is one in Australia, 2 in France (one in V. good condition & one is a project car), 3 in USA but I believe only one has the original seats.

I have one - all original - Euro model brought in from Germany.
As far as I know there are two in the US and one has been striped of the interior.

Cheers for the feedback!

Well my car has been conformed through Porsche New Zealand as a 50th Anniversary model. The car was imported direct from Germany hence why the the wheel is on the left (In NZ we drive on the left!). The car is meteor metallic, wine red leather, signatured seat, sun roof, 5spd manual, its seems fully optioned but the air con doesn't work nor the cruize controlm, which is not uncommon. I've spent too much money on my baby anodising majority of engine bay, Kevlar clutch, Ibach sport springs, new radiator, cam belt, water pump, radiator, the list goes on. The most expensive parts are left paint work and leather interior work.

But I love it really, I'll try and post a few pics when I get a chance.

Regards to all!

Carl.

I have a RHD in South Africa

Hi Guys
I bought a 928S manual with option code 406 just over a year ago. Interior immaculate, just giving it a good clean.

Nice car. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I had an '82 S without that option and thought it was a wonderful car to drive.
