Default Center Armrest Interior Suede Kit

Hello all,

I have made a few of these for those who have a center armrest in excellent condition but the interior lacks refinement or in fact, any type of finish.

This is a kit that I make for the center armrests I re-cover. All the parts are precut and already carry the 3M adhesive. Everything you need to transform the interior of your old cassette box into a jewel case
Options are either suede or leather, or a combination of the 2 + the engraving of your choice.

The following pictures are of a kit in classic gray suede and leather over a black leather background. They are not black and white pictures, that was just the nature of that particular subject.

The kit is $75.00 + shipping and very easy to install:

Some of you will recognize the logo of a well known member:

The bottom piece is a foam backed suede pad with a leather piping.

As always, I look forward to your comments

Thanks

Paul

You can actually see a similar kit (in Champagne II leather and black suede) in this thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/303526-champagne-armrest-installed.html

That was for an extended box, but it's basically the same.

Thanks

Hey Scott,

that is no problem at all. I've done leather with contrasting stitching and also Alcantara.

I'm guessing Alcantara is longer-lasting than suede. What would pricing be on that?

Hey Scott,

I don't think that Alcantara is longer lasting than genuine suede. It might very well be easier to clean and comes UV and stain protected from the factory.

The price of automotive grade Alcantara is slightly higher than the top grade hides I use for the Porsche parts, but there is less waste, so the end cost of the part remains about the same.

Hey Brian,

I think that is an effect of the angle of the camera, because both are the same.

The contrasting piping on yours is especially nice. Here's another picture for those who have not seen Brian's armrest:

I have always wondered, what exactly is Alcantara. I see the term used very often in automobile magazines. I gather that it is a type of leather?

Speaking of sueade. Is it practical to do an entire enterior in suede? What are the drawbacks? Would it be more expensive than typical leather?

Thanks. Great work as always Paul.

Wikipedia says:
Alcantara is a composite material used to cover surfaces and forms in various industries, such as automotive, upholstery, fashion, aircraft, yachting and electronics. It is produced using a proprietary technology by Alcantara Spa, an Italian company (which both manufacture and market the product).

Alcantara is created via the combination of an advanced spinning process (producing very low denier bi-component "islands in the sea" fibre) and chemical and textile production processes (needle punching, buffing, impregnateion, extraction, finishing, dyeing, etc) which interact with each other.

Hey Fabio,

Alcantara is a man made material that as the look of fine suede. There are many copies now, but the original Alcantara from Italy is the only one so far to have a line especially designed for automotive interiors.
Not all "ultra-suede" is the same.

The price of Alcantara is a bit higher than the high end hides we use for Porsche parts. But since there is less waste, the end cost is about the same.

I have genuine suede in my own car. My seat inserts are made of raw suede, which is the underside of high end vat dyed leather. It is a bit coarser than the suede you would see for clothes, but it wears really well and once treated for UV and stain resistance, not hard to keep clean at all. My seats have about 15000 miles on them now and show no signs of wear.

Paul,

Nice liner, but a bit pricy for me.

Do you have a leather jacket for the Owner's Manual that's normally kept in the glove box? I was thinking of something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSC...QQcmdZViewItem

but sized to fit the manual.

Hey Borland,

if you add up the laser time, my time at the sewing machine and the cost of the leather, you would be surprised how much I make on this. But hey... value, much like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder

Nice card holder. I've been planning to make a nice cover for the manuals. But it's on the long list of projects I have waiting for some free time.

Paul
