Default Rennlist 928 sponsorship opportunity - Let's buy Mark Kibort a new motor!! $100 Each

It all started in this thread post #31:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/271335-6-1-liter-stroker-short-block-for-sale.html
Rick Carter suggested we pony up $100 each to buy Mark this motor.

Think about the pride you will feel watching Mark blow by unsuspecting BMW's & Corvette's with an extra few ponies under the hood.

This is for all 928's world wide - keep the Holbert, land speed record 928, in the running.

I suggested everyone who joins the party will get to sign the underside of the hood – Mark has not yet agreed to this part of the deal.

WE HAVE A SPONSOR FOR THIS PLEDGE DRIVE!!!!

Here are the details from the man himself:

So here is the deal - for every $20 you donate you will receive one entry in the drawing. For every $100 you donate, 7 entries will be entered in your name.

Current Total:
$3,169.28

Sorry, I have enough trouble affording my car let alone helping maintain someone else's. I could use some paint work and I would let you guys sign the underside of my hood for 100.00 donation.

what woulde happen to the existing block? would it get disected to see what goodies porsche put in there? or would mark donate it to a museum? it is a piece of porsche history, so maybe he can sell it back to them to help fund the new one! or you can put the block in scott's car

When was the last time Mark threw anything away?

I like the idea of sending it to Green Bay, I could find a use for it.

It would be nice to see if Porsche did anything regarding the 2/6 bearing problem.

Ok, here is the bullet point version:

1. Mark owns the 928 used at the salt flats in 1986 to break the production top speed record
2. It was later donated to IMSA as a safety car (I have pics of this from the late 80's)
3. Then it was donated to a high school shop class
4. Eventually Mark bought the car (or found it abandoned, not sure on the details). Turned it into the race car you see in this thread. He races in the Speed GT series against very well funded teams - is able to hold his own in a 20+ year old 928 still using the original motor. He drives his car to every event (well, except Road America) with race tires in the back, changes at the track, goes racing then heads home. He even runs on used tires. Needless to say, he is one of the few holding the torch for 928's in the racing world. He owns / races one of the most historic 928's ever - a car we would all love to see continue in the Speed GT series, or any other race series that will allow him to run. The fact that everyone else in the series is running punched out production motors and he is essentially using a stock S4 motor (ok, some very minor tweaks) he could really use this engine.

We have reached $1,000 – I’ll setup the paypal donation account.

Thanks Andrew for the banner - excellent idea!! I'm going to make a few posts in the racing forum just to show it off.
