Yes, that's the amp block. It's the same size as the head, and about 3/4 of an inch thick with a separation cable leading back to the head.
It was a slight PITA to find a place for it behind the console Not too bad because I decided not to actually mount it. I just wedged it into a nice spot with room for airflow around the heat sink. We'll see how that goes. The separation cable is maybe 2ft long so there is enough cable to wiggle the amp around until you find a spot. Like I say, it's not pretty to look at back there LOL but it's not really hurting anything just laying in there.
If you leave it attached to the head it adds 3/4 inch or so that sticks out from the dash, and it came with bezels for either mounting option.
Also, lots of the cables on the back like the bulk connector to a changer and the aux 1 and 2 cables can be removed from the head unit, cleaning things up a lot. I left only the Aux1 cable attached and ran an extension out to the passenger shelf in case I want to plug in an ipod.
No idea about a manual online, I sort of bought this on a leap of faith upon the recommendation of another poster here on RL.
So far I am pleased with the function and looks. Came with a remote but I don't see any use for it. I'll probably lose it before long
Bad things:
It's skipped a few times on bumps in the road.... dunno if that's going to be a regular thing or not.
It takes a long time for the changer to swap between discs and there's a lot of mechanical noise during that time. Not a big deal to me but it's there.
There is a wire on the back to go to lights, supposedly to dim the head illumination when you turn the headlights on. This does not work on mine, I attached that to several lights that are switched. But, the display isn't overly bright and I run the interior lights on max, it's not really much difference in the end.
Sorry for the blurry photo...... I'm no Ansel Adams.

Hi JayC67,
Sounds interesting.
So when you remove the amplifier block on the back, it is already wired up so you can pull the excess cable out of the unit and remotely mount it? IE, you dont have to do any additional wiring to detact the block.
You are right, most people dont push their amplifiers to the max, so I dont think location of the remote amplifier block and air flow around it is much of a concern. Even if you left it attached, there would only be the air flow from an enclosed area anyway.
I am interested in buying the unit from Woofersetc too, they have the unit listed at $299.

Joe

My Clarion unit in my Shark, or is that my Shark in my 928 !
These units use SD cards (up to 2G) - no CD's. Advertised as the Shark with the left and right buttons like gills.

Thanks JayC67, I just bought the Nakamichi MBVI on Ebay, from Woofersetc. It was $299 with free shipping.
I had been looking at all the options for adding a CD changer to the car, but this is the least intrusive and easier to install option. Compared to buying a new CD reciever and separate CD changer, plus installation, wiring, etc.
The Pioneer CD reciever I have now doesn't have the IP Bus feature to allow a Pioneer CD changer to be added, so everything would have to be changed.
Installing the one Nakamichi unit will be a whole lot simpler.
Now to find a replacement for the antenna amplifier. Has anyone done that? I suspect that mine is broken and I found an inexpensive alternative called Best Kits AB150.
Anyone have experiance in upgrading or replacing the antenna amplifier? Photo attached of the proposed unit.

Joe

Joe, where exactly in the car is the antenna amp located? I just removed an antenna amp from my car which I believe was for an old mobile phone. Hope I didn't remove the wrong thing.
I also am struggling with radio/cd issues and this thread and the CDR 220 thread are very helpful.

Hi Jim,
In my car, '88 S4, has the antenna wire located in the windowshield.
From what I have read on Rennlist, the amplifier is behind or above the glove box. You have to remove the glove box to get to it.
When I install the new Nakamichi CD player/changer, I plan on removing the glove box and replacing the antenna booster/amplifier with one I have ordered online.
I wish someone had posted a photo of the antenna amplifier insitu.

I'm fortunate enough to still have a fully operational CD-2 although I doubt it will last much longer. I'm going to start researching heavily into finding someone that can fix my spare so I can have a back up.
Here are a couple shots taken tonight with the new camera.

Blaupunkt Brisbane SD48: Doesn't play CD's but does all types of digital media (USB, SD, Ipod). It is a good deal for $109 and looks really clean.
Definitely is going to be on my short list.
