But people are definately woking on them. I'm sure once they get them sorted out it'll be a great technology. But right now it's pretty unproven, although I think Porsche is (is going to?) use something similar on the new 911 turbo.

Anyways, IIRC John has already said he's using Garrett turbos.

I do believe Garrett's parent is Honeywell who owns a patent for one design. One could be taken off a recent-production car too....

These units are Garretts...small frame size, but BIG on flow. The compressors will outflow any K-26 and most K-27 turbos. The cartridges on these are ball bearing. Hotsides are 9 bladed high flow wheels...small but mighty! These hotsides will flow as much as a T3 Stage 3 turbine wheel but fit into very tight spots. They are the latest in turbine technology! Used by many of the big name tuners to power levels of 700+ HP... exactly as you see them here.

Ah.
One of the hot setups on the VR4s was dual GT3076R. That was only for a 3.5L though. Some guys were tampering with the IHI ceramic ball bearing turbos (RHF-55), but it took a LOT of fabrication. Will be interesting to see how the product turns out anyway, the torque numbers on the last project were outstanding IMHO.

As for the variable stuff...there is no viable option right now as an aftermarket setup. The Aerocharger was a unique concept, but it had some issues with longevity because they did not use engine oil and were self lubricated. The variable technology is used on a lot of diesel trucks and the newer 997TT uses them as well. With the 5.0 liter displacement, not sure I'll need them though...I won't need all the boost in 1st to begin with. The displacement is adequate to get the car rolling.
