Non-LSD to LSD or PSD
Has anyone done this? If I want to change to LSD or PSD do I need to get a complete gearbox or can I swap some parts? What about PSD?
Thanks...

PSD has a pile of supporting electronics and is tied into the ABS, etc. With an 89, swapping in an LSD is the way to go. Only issue is the need to drop the tranny or fuel tank, as I do not think there is enough work room behind the diff case to do this in situ. Otherwise, it a straight enchange of the open diff for the LSD, using your existing ring gear and shimming the new unit for fit and backlash.

I don't think PSD would be practical as it's an electro-hydrailic solution that dependes on wheel speed sensors, etc. that your '90 may or may not have. You need a pure mechanical solition IMHO. I think Bill Ball did this in his car with parts swapped out from 928 Int'l.

I haven't done it yet, although I bought the LSD to do this TWICE. First one I sold before I got around to it. The second one is hibernating in my garage. Sterling Gee shows the process here:

If you go the PDS route you can replace the actuator w/ a bolt and forgo all the eletronics, etc.

our LSD is a good one . the older style is supposed to be a higher value limited slip, but ive done it a few times on a few different racers. HUGE difference. Some folks have done near lock up versions, but if you want to do something that actually works and works well, do what the guys have done that are running the fastest. Seems the mild limited slip found in the later cars works just fine for street use and track.

Does Quaiffe make one that will fit a 928? What do you mean by "swap out the carrier"?

Thank you all for your input. Does anyone has a late model (1987? and up) limited slip for sale? The link that Bill provided is pretty straight forward.
