I prefer the look of a rubber hose between the L-bend in the blower pipe to the IC vs two small rubber pieces connecting this new pipe to everything
That would be 3 rubber pieces vs. 2 rubber pieces. Tastes vary but that rubber section under the crossbrace is the only part of the system that really makes it look aftermarket. A one piece metal pipe is a much cleaner look. Plus any elimination of rubber sections that use up compressor energy to "swell" makes the system more efficient. For that matter, eliminating any joints that would disturb airflow patterns would probably also be more efficient - slightly so, but still more efficient.

I guess looking "aftermarket" never crossed my mind. Anyone who sees my engine that is sharp enough to question the originality of the car, would already know 928's never came with a blower.

Tim Murphy and I ran into the owner of a 1986 1/2 over the weekend. "Mine didn't come with the blower" was his comment when Tim mentioned his car was supercharged. As far as this guy knew, it was 100% original. He also had no idea what having an 86 ½ meant over a regular 86. This is your typical, average 928 owner. I run into these types of owners all the time.

Those who know one way or the other will not be "fooled" by a metal vs. rubber hose. Those who cannot tell a 924 from a 928 will not have enough knowledge to question a rubber hose going to the intake. Considering the stock engine has two black plastic hoses going to the air box.

I agree taste varies, whatever you think will look better is 100% cool with me, I’m not hear to try and change your mind or anything. Still, a solid pipe between the IC and Blower would be a royal bitch to remove with the cross brace installed vs. the rubber hose.

Good point - probably next to impossible - but the crossbrace does come off easily. I am speaking totally from the point of making it look as clean and stock as possible. If everything were black (SC, pipe, intercooler) I would be even happier. Passing for stock is what I am after and I was just offering a suggestion. No big deal. I think Jim R's setup looks great.

I like the look of the solid pipe from SC to intercooler like mine is set up. The cross brace really needs to come off to remove it, but it has been a real long time since I needed to and it only takes 5 minutes anyway.

I will try Carl's strut bar after I powder coat the intake (soon). Carl tells me the clearance will be the same as stock, so it should be fine.

I totally forgot what Jim R's engine looked like.

With the issues I've had with my car (non-supercharged related) I've taken that pipe off more times than I care to count (it's currently off right now). But, once this latest issue is sorted out - removing the pipe should be few & far between. Probably when spark plugs are needed next (at least on the S4's).

Hacker, I pulled one of my plugs on the drivers side prior to emissions testing and it was so clean after a year and a half I decided to just leave them in. I have a new set of bosch coppers sitting on the shelf (one heat range colder like the last ones) and they may just sit there quite a while longer.

My S4 comment was not meant to be taken as the S4's needing a lot of spark plugs - just that the intake tube will probably need to be removed to change them. With the 16V, that is not the case.

This photo shows the current 32v kit, where the rubber connector hose is, the mandrel-bent tubing, and why the crossbrace pushes into the hose (only slightly) and there is no fitment problem.

Anyone happen to have one of these collecting dust that they are willing to part with? Without the lettering would be gravy.

Thank you, in advance!

Exactly. I want it for it's squareness - easier to mount to, squarely.

Carlos, if you can't tind one and if Motorsports no longer makes them, maybe I can make one for you. In fact, we can redesign it any way you like.
