Default Help upgrading to Euro 8" H4's

Hey guys,
A friend has a 79 euro parts car told me to take whatever I want. So first thing I went for the 8" h4's. I removed the bulb unit, but not the forked piece. I have my factory lights removed, and not sure how everyone has installed these. I thought about get the adjusters, but after some research, I decided they weren't worth the effort. I know many of you guys have done this upgrade, but I haven't found much info on the actual installation. Here are the pics of what I got.

H4 Front

H4 back

Factory fork

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

Default Some parts missing:

I recently did this H5 to H4, you do need to reuse the black plastic approx 1 inch little ball ended socket post "thingy" to affix the bottom of the lights and .........wait; tomorrow call 928 intl and show them this post so they can see your pictures, they'll send you what you need.

Also do a search for H4, great illustrated install writeups,

Good Luck it's seriously worth it, H4's are the shizzle!

Maybe this will help...

You are missing a few necessary parts (pivots that fit on the small post on the frame shown in your second photo and the speednut that holds them on).

Thanks Bill, I should have stated that I'm swapping from the 7" old style lights to the 8". I found that what I needed to do was take the pivot off the old fork and put it on the new fork. I just finished putting them on a couple hours ago. Now, I just need to wait for it to get dark so I can adjust.

Bill, I noticed on your procedure you mention the 9003's. I went to the local auto place but they didn't have any H4's, well I take that back, they had some h4's for motorcycle use only. I went ahead and got the 9003's just to get something in there. Do you know where I can get the H4's you are talking about? Thanks,
Chris Rose

I use high output (100/80) Hella H4 bulbs that are sold for off-road use only by my local independent parts house. 928 Specialists sells 100/80 H4 bulbs as well.
https://www.928gt.com/ps-1543-270-bu...80100watt.aspx

The H4 for motorcycle COULD be the same bulb. Honda uses (or at least did in the past) a bulb with different positioning tabs. Otherwise the bulbs are/were identical, and an adapter was/is sold so Honda motorcycles could use automotive H4 bulbs.

Did HELLA also supply 8 inch headlights to Porsche, specifically for the 928?

I use H4 bulbs from the local Pep-Boys; they are labeled "for motorcycles" and fit perfectly.

-You'll love the H4's Airosey...I wish the heavy jet that I fly for a living had landing lights like these!

If Hella did, it's not obvious. You can buy 7" Hella H4 lens housings all over the place for $50, but I've never seen any Hella 8" offered anywhere.

Item is a pair of Hella H4 Headlamps for a 1980's Porsche 928. These lights are way big and they are in excellent condition. The lamps appear to almost brand new.
The lamps come with bulbs and portions of the headlight buckets.

Shipping is $14.00 to anywhere in the lower 48 states. Canada, Alaska and Hawai'i will be the actual charges.

I purchased these on ebay, not delivered as yet but I'm worried I have purchased $50 items at a premium! Do I have any recourse? I asked the question 7 or 8 inch diameter?

I've got a problem now. The beams are WAY too high. I adjusted them all the way down, but they are still too high. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

Probably due to a mismatch of the lower balljoint length. I noted that in my write up, but it was not that severe going from US 8" H5 to H4. The solution would probably be to mount the lower balljoint from the Euro donor. It should be shorter and can be screwed in and out. This requires removal of the front wheels and wheel well cover to access.

US balljoint:

Euro balljoint (and motor):

Thanks Bill, I was thinking about that, but because the euro are adjustable I was afraid the headlight might move around alot. Luckily I removed the entire headlight assemblies from the donor car, so all of the parts are in the garage. I'll play around and see what I can come up with.
Thanks!

It would be cool to acquire the Euro rheostat and rig it up. I would not worry about the light moving with the Euro balljoint. It should hold it firmly in whatever position it is set in.
