Default Windshield antenna- through-glass or not?

In my quest to clean up my beast, I've been eyeing this vintage cell phone antenna on the windshield that I'd like to remove. Does anyone know whether the installation of this would have involved drilling a hole through the glass, or is it some sort of inductive connection? Judging by the size of the big cable that runs to it inside the glass, my fear is the former, in which case it'll stay until the windshield gets cracked or otherwise needs replacement.......

It's glued on and uses a transducer on the other side to communicate the signal through the solid glass.

Cool- is there an appropriate solvent to loosen it up? Acetone? goof-off? I can only imagine what me and a screwdriver would to to the glass.....
