PSD Flush, solenoid bleeder won't budge, 94 GTS
I'm about 3/4's done with the PSD bleed, flushed out the accumulator, etc. Now trying to loosen the solenoid bleeder way up top on the right side of the differential, above the inner CV joint.
The bleeder looks really crudded up. I've used some Liquid Wrench, but he space is so confined, I can't even get a 1/4" drive 11mm socket on, with any room to put a small wratchet because of the anti-roll bar. I've tried an 11 mm wrench, broken in half so I've got room to work, but no luck.
Any possible suggestions??

How do you break a box-end wrench in half?
Is that short clearance an issue only on the GTS model? Don't recall others having that problem.

Randy:
The clearance between the bleeder and the gas tank is so tight, I couldn't get a good purchase on the hex end of the bleeder, too great an angle. So I put the wrench in the vise, trying to just bend it, with the help of some "love taps" from a 10 pound sledge hammer. It broke in half, so I had a 3.5 inch box end wrench, just enough to get the wrench on the bleeder and my right hand on the handle. A couple of good tugs, and the bleeder moved.
My car is an automatic 94 GTS, and I was loosening the bleeder from rearward side of the halfshaft. Maybe on manual gearboxes, this can be done from the front of the halfshaft, with more room.
All done now. Time for a midnight drive to see if the PSD works.

Intersting... on my car it was a 7mm bleeder - the accumulator was 11mm (all the calipers are 11mm too). I was so nervous about busting that damn thing. That solenoid is the worst part of the job.
But since you got her bled... looks like it's beer time at SITM!

Andrew, I haven't ruled SITM out just yet. I've got a conference next Thursday and Friday her in Charlottesville and really need to check with the SO this weekend. My honey-do list has been neglected the past few weeks with Sharkdom.
Everything runs great. I'll put the undertrays back on Saturday morning. My PSD fluid wasn't too milk-shakey, but wasn't exactly clear either. I used Super Blue, so it was easy to see the color change.

I replaced a leaking PSD slave cylinder on my 90' S4. The old bleeder screw was 7 mm, but the replacement from Porsche now has a 11 mm bleeder.
So I had the same problem with the bleeder wrench. But my full length box-end wrench fit with the handle reaching toward the front of the car. It helps if you unbolt the CV joint and hang the halfshaft with stay ties.
BTW, the slave cylinder cost $275 plus shipping from Porsche. It's rebuildable, but no source for parts and the parts from the clutch slave rebuilding kit are to large.

Oh yeah, I've also got a softball game on Friday night. Maybe if I get up at 3am on Saturday, then hot-foot it down to SITM, returning on Sunday. We'll see.
I've got a PCA event the following weekend too.
I'll figure something out.
By the way, the PSD works just fine. With the slush box, I really can't light the tire up from a standing start, just a small chirp, the PSD green light lights up and BWAAAAAAA to 5,000 rpm, automatic upshift to 2nd, take it to 6000 rpm. Sounds to nice.

Bill,
I finally got my car running and i get a differential control not active warning or somethign like it. In your post i think you mentioned that your PSD didnt work as well. Once you flushed it did that cure your psd issue. I know in the last post you mentioned it was working but i am not sure if yours wasnt working before and the flushing cured the issue.
I know Andrew did this recently too. Andrew if you read this would you comment on if yours was operational prior to the flush and if it wasnt the flush changed that.
Thanks

Mine was operational (i.e. the green light came on), but it was grabby and I thought unpredictable. Since the flush, I don't feel it in the seat of my pants when it comes on. I assume it works becasue the green light comes on and I can see 2 black strips of rubber!
I would check the fuse and I think there may be a relay in there as well. Don't forget there are a few electrical connections in the left rear tire well as well for the PSD.
