Sean here, long time lurker and soon to be frequent poster.

I've been on the hunt for an S4 for about a year and I finally got one. First, A little bit of history on me, then to the car. If this gets too long for you, just look at the pictures and say what you will.

I grew up around these cars and all of the other Euro exotics due to my father having a shop that worked on nothing but P-cars, Jags, Ferrari's, etc. As a kid my dad restored a 914, had various 911's and a 924T, and as most kids do, I went the opposite way of him and got involved in boats right after highschool. I've had SeaDoo's, had a Baja and all that comes with it. Now that I'm 35 I decided it was time for a change and I have always had a special place in my heart for the car I learned how to drive in. A 928.

After selling all the H2OToys, I now have my 1st Porsche.

As I noticed, there are a lot of 928's on E-bay and most of the cars get some sort of comment on them here, but not the one I had my eye on. I won the auction, and took posession yesterday. I have to admit that I was very nervous about buying a 928 that I had not seen, much less knew anyone to take a look at it. I've taken quite a bit of time to look it over now that it is home, check out the maint records and give her several runs and I am in love.

1988 S4, 145k on the od, trans rebuilt at 110k by Devek, top end rebuilt at 100k, new steering rack 3 months ago along with a Devek radiator, new A/C and various other stuff. TB/WP recent, slotted rotors and new pads, wheels and tires. The body has no dings or dents but the expected rock chips and various things missing inside (tool kit/spare/cargo cover)

I am a happy damn camper right now. I know that I will be wrenching on her and I have the ability to do so, and with the advice of this forum and local that I can't wait to get together with, it should be fun.

There are a couple of things I do have concerns with, the major being the blower fan for the heat/air is constantly on (I've not checked out the fuses/relays as of yet) it blows without the key and I can crank it up as I please. The inside hatch release runs, but doesn't unlatch (thinking I just need to buy a new one) and the rear wiper only goes 1/4 the way across the window.

The little cutie is our 9 year old that has a toothbrush and some soapy water doing a lot of detail work. She loves this stuff.

Let me be the first to welcome you to 928 ownership! Beautiful car - looks like you got a great one. The folks here are incredibly helpful, and you will find a lot yourself just by using the search function. Beautiful daughter too - looks like you are raising her right to be a car nut like yourself!

She has already laid claim to it on her 16th B-day. At 9 she knows what she wants. Tell me I'm not in trouble when she hits her teens.

That's a very beautiful shark you got yourself there! Congratulations - I always loved the dark colors on the sharks, and if I'd ever have to order one from the factory, blue would be one of my first choices. What color is it inside?

It seems that it had quite a bit of work done to it in recent months and years. Did you get a PPI, or just buy on "gut feeling"? Hopefully you won't run into many unexpected problems, but you already found "sharkoholix anonymous here on this board.

You might want to connect with other shark owners local to your area and do some wreniching with them. The Dallas group consists of wonderful people with lots of knowledge and experience.

Also, consider a trip to the 928 Owners Club International Conference in Denver in June - you could make a lot of new connections there and learn even more about what you've got yourself into.

I do plan on getting together with the DFW are shark owners, I joined up to the local msg board long before I joined Rennlist just for that reason.

No, no PPI, yes I regretted it before delivery, no, I don't regret it now. I wouldn't call it a "gut feeling" as much as I would call it "It's supposed to be" type of thing.

I actually had no intention of purchasing a car I had never seen/driven myself but had had my eye on this one in Arizona. It just happened that I saw it back up on bidding and wanted to know what the reserve was, so I bid on it with 3 days left and tripped the reserve. (side note, there has been 5 guys that have been bidding on the same 928's over the last 6 months or so, me being one of them) and I figured that someone would outbid me. Well, noone did, in 3 days, not one single higher bid. This in itself made me extreamly nervous so I started to ask the sell questions with 24 hours left, all the typical questions we ask about sharks and some additional pictures. When I got the new pics, I could not believe my eyes. The pictures in the ad were in the shade, not real clear but the ones sent to me, I just hit the floor. Perfect! He had all the maint records, and in those were things he didn't list on the auction.

That last hour I sat here clicking "refresh" every few minutes sweating it and it ended up as mine. Granted I've only had it 30 hours, but I have found very little that needs work, and what does need work, I have a lifetime to TLC it.

Tony is they guy that sold it to me, and he is one fantastic person, very helpful and straight forward about everything, and I have to thank him here.

I can't wait for the get togethers, Poker runs on boats is one thing, but this is a new chapter for me.

What a nice color combination - dark blue with light grey leather!!! The latter was a special leather option at the time. My first 928 had it, and I loved it. It's just a bit hard to keep nice and clean at times...

Unfortunately, there is little you can do about dash cracks - other than replacinig the whole dash, of having it leather covered. But once you start the leather (or vinyl), you also have to do the console and door arm rests to make it match. It never ends...

I love your story about bidding and buying - it seems fate united you with this shark. Treat it well, and it will give you a lot of driving pleasure.

It's nice to see you have more enthusiasts in your family. Not many sharks get their tooth brushed regularly...

Welcome aboard.

You may only have an adjustment problem with the rear hatch, if it is running. I had the same problem originally, but with a little tweaking, it works fine.

Nice! Glad to hear there's new blood in the neighborhood. I'm down in Highland Village, not far from you it would seem...Mine's fairly new too, a great score for me also. It looks like you'll have a nice souvenier license plate to hang on the wall also, the AZ plate from mine went on the wall Thursday.

You know you're pretty close to ground zero for 928's in DFW, don't you? It's in Double Oak...

How did you get the car home??

The owner's group here is fantastic and a large part of the reason why I finally pulled the trigger after wanting one for so many years. You'll never be short of answers on how to attack whatever issues might arise. Enjoy!
