C'mon, I have already voted seven times for Carmel on Sunday. Well, what's it going to be?? Let's have a little decisiveness here.

I just had a conversation with Bill Ball, and we decided to put together a drive for Sunday to the Monterey / Carmel area. So please plan for Sunday.

We will post more details tomorrow, when we should have a proposed starting point and route.

Hope to see many of you on Sunday, and the rest of you no later than Sharks in the Park!!!

Starting point: Here
Destination: There

Juan, show who up? Whyyyy I oughta... You just don't want to come because it'll be real roads at manly speeds, not getting passed by bicycles on a dirt trail like you're used to.

What? There are more German car nuts? Impossible... Can't be. Germans don't like cars. Or do they?

ROUTE SUGGESTIONS:

Carmel is a mess on Sunday, at least approaching from Highway 1. I'm looking at routes, trying to stay off main arteries. Looking at our usual starting spot at that Starbucks on Bernal, heading out the route we usually head out on, but not going into Watsonville. Instead head the other way on 152 very briefly, then head South on 156 even more briefly, skirt around Holister to end up on 25 South, maybe stopping at the Pinnacles, as we did several years ago withe DEVEK Days. Then I would head back West.

The route to best do that has a long and a shorter way. I haven't added up the miles. The long way is I believe what Nicole had planned to do a month ago. You guys didn't end up doing that, right? It would be to continue on 25 until it ends at 198, then head west on 198, onto a road that eventually becomes Mission then Nacimiento Ferguson Rd. This runs into Hway 1 below Big Sur. From their Bill Swift could depart South, the rest of us could head up to the Nepenthe like we did one time where people could depart from as needed.

So, Nicole, that looks basically like your previous plan. It's pretty ambitious.

The shorter route would be to turn off 25 South at King City Rd and head West, turn North on Metz Rd on the outskirts of King City, heading West on Elm Avenue going through Greenfeld and picking up Arroyo Seco Rd and heading into Carmel on Carmel Valley Rd.

I'll try to figure distances and times, unless somebody already is clear on that.

Sounds good... though if we take 25 direct off of 101, we would save several miles. Might get us to king city area early enough to consider 198. Whatever, I'm game. If we leave early enough and keep a good pace maybe Bill could join us for lunch?

I don't want to be overly ambitious with that drive, given that Bill will have to drive another 8 hours or so until he's back Insane Diego.

Maybe we can stop in Monterey, continue to Carmel, eat in that area, and anybody who wants can join us down Hiway 1 to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park with the beautiful waterfall going into the ocean. This is where we would send Bill on his merry way South and head back from there.

Bill: I'll PM you about the route.

You really worried about the federales watching us here and waiting in the bushes to nail us as we buzz by? Frankly with my wholely inadequate shocks and crapola tires, I will be taking it easy.

Dave, 101 to 25 is zero fun. The route into the hills adds some miles but is worth it.

We can take the short route, but if you look at it, where the long route dumps us off on Hway 1 is much closer to home for Bill

This is beginning to sound like a LONG run. When we did that route a couple of months ago, (Superbowl Sunday), it was 350 miles back to jail....er,....home.
Also, Carmel Valley Road is a great drive but it is a long drive because it gets tight in places and there are bikes on it so there is no crossing the center line at all ( = slow go). Fun though.

Another thought: follow the route Nicole has down to a road inland of King City. Ask Nicole why. (hint: CHP city = King City) That route avoids all those hungry bears, though we did spot one on the inland route. Guess he was searching for some shark meat.

If we go early enough, Carmel traffic is not too bad. But I am going there anyway. Got to show Nicole something there. Another reason I prefer early is that I still haven't replaced my AC compressor and it will be hot Sunday.

I vote for meeting on Bernal Road at dawn.

Time to dream my troubles away........zzzzzzzzzz....

Short route is fine with me or even shorter. I've been on Hway 1 into Carmel on Sunday - it would have to be mighty early. Whatever you guys want.
