80's old-school solution for the rear hatch heat and glare
I have been trying to find some rear louvers for my hatch ever since I purchased my car last year. The Alabama heat can be brutal!
I am not a big fan of dark tint due to night driving and not being able to see when backing up. I hereby post my resolution to suffer the slings and arrows of the forum. If you are a fan of my solution, and wish to purchase one for yourself, don't look to me unless it is for design. This was a major PITA project, but I am pleased with the results. So far, it is a one-of-a-kind!

My mother always told me, if I didn't have anything nice to say............
The quality looks good though - sticks up kinda high.

It does stick up a little. But overall I think it turned out very nice. Good job. I think some tint on the quarter windows would help the look.

I was thinking about removing the wiper and dropping it down. The way it is made, that would be simple to try. I was a little concerned over the molded in valley on the spoiler and how that would look without the wiper.

This looks much better than I had expected. I actually like it. Good fit and finish.

Very, very nice! I have been thinking about those for a long time and your installation looks even better than I expected it would. What material did you use and how did you form it?

I used aluminum, aluminized steel, and stainless steel. I had access to a laser to cut the side panels our of stainless. I cut the cross panels from aluminum and stiffened them using a press brake with some ribbing tooling. I ended needing some additional stiffness in the cross panels and I used some aluminized steel to fabricate some channels to crimp over the edges. The louvered portion lifts up like a hinge to have access to clean the glass, etc. The whole thing attaches to the car with clips that slide between the glass and the original spoiler. If I get tired of it, I can remove it and have no lasting affects.

So....
Back to gettin'one.
Possible?
Cost?
Available when?
Have you done any high double digit/low triple digit mph testing?
Wind noise?
I don't know about the rest of the Texas/New Mexico/Arizona/Oklahoma/California bunch,
BUT!
It looks good enough to me, and I'm interested X2.

Me likes. Course, I always liked the 80s Z cars. Maybe that's what my next buy will be once I've gotten the 928 up and running like I want.
What would it take to make a similar device useing blades of metal about 1" wide, on the inside of the window. You'd have to make the tops silver to keep the heat out of the car to at least some degree, but...
If you've got way too much time, maybe try it for the rear quater windows. (double curves, fun...)
In any case, I still like.

Nicely done!
If you get rid of the wiper, perhaps you could attach a panel at the bottom which would cover the inside of the entire spoiler (thereby hiding the indent).
