Need AC compressor, but have question about with one
The ac makes noise like a bearing is shot on the compressor, so the belt is off right now in order to make things easier and less noisy well, in vegas its starting to warm up here, so its time to get the AC working on all the cars...lol
Anyway, i was wondering if i need to get one with a clutch or not? if my 'bearing' noise has nothing to do with the clutch how can i check the clutch to see if that is the issue?
Now i also looked through the search and saw that many people on here had good compressors for sale, i think 1 person had like 8... lol
Who still has one for sale i could get?
Also, on ebay 1 person is selling a reman compressor and says its for 928/944 are they the same? I have a 82 model
thanks

If it makes noise all of the time the problem is going to be the bearing. If the compressor itself were bad you would only hear the noise when the compressor was on (A/C switched on) unless the clutch is locked up. That is easy to test just turn the compressor by hand (since the belt is off) if just the pulley turns and not the compressor the clutch isn't locked up. You can take off the clutch and replace just the bearing.

Dont bother buying a 25 yr old compressor. Yours is probibly as good as that one will be. Buy one that is completely remanufactured and has a warrantee ( normally about 1 yr ) I would get a new clutch too. Try 928 Int 928 Special or local AC shops can usually find them too.

guess it wouldn't hurt to replace the bearing and trying that before i jump into a refurbished one. Where can i get just the bearing?
