Default Interior lights - soft off?

Just curious if the GTS's were ever equiped with a soft-off interior light option. You know it's where the interior lights dim before they go out. Anyway, I was poking around the web and found this 2-wire soft off module and was wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of thing or could offer insight on how to do it (Alan?) I know it's probably more trouble than it's worth, but it's one of those subtle touches that would make the car feel like a 200x car instead of a 199x car.

thats nothing more than a capacitor or inductor really. Even if this is something fancier, which I doubt, the capacitor or inductor would have the same functionality and be 1/10th of the price.

Interesting.... got me thinking... and searching... and finding. I may just add this to my project list.

Thanks!

After I replaced the interior lighting with white LEDs, I couldn't remember if the car was equipped with soft-off.

For LEDs, you'd need some sort of variable-pulsed soft-off.

I guess I should have mentioned that I am extremely electrically challenged. I can solder (kind of) and I can cut and splice with the best, but that's where it ends. I need a plug and pray solution. I think designing an entire module is beyond my capabilities.

My main question is would this work on the 928? Earlier years should work w/o issue, but the later years have a delay built into the relay, so I was mostly curious about that. I guess it should work as long as it's after the relay, right?

Andrew - No even the GTS's just click off after the delay - 10-15 sec or so.

You could add this - it would kick in after the existing delay and add its additional 4 sec & dimming.

One issue - the interior lights go out immediately when you lock the door or turn the ignition - this would add the 4sec & dimming to both of these - probably OK for the lock case but maybe not ideal when you start the car at night (but its only 4 sec...?). if there was one that just dimmed immediately that would be rather better...

Of course Dave will now design us one - right Dave...?

For older cars (up to '90) where the interior light delay is by the CE Panel relay ony (not the integrated alarm unit) I'm sure there are direct plug in versions from other manufacturers that do exactly this... Someone?

Well if Dave's on it, that's good enough for me, I'll just have to offer bribes to get it to the top of the list.

I'll take another look... maybe even buy the parts... but it's not as high a priority as getting my updates finished & posted! Looks like a simple enough circuit, and I may be able to simplify further. We'll see.

Uh... Andrew... what sort of bribes?

Man my old 300zx had that... and it talked to me lol. It was nothing like the 928 but I still appreciate
Jap gadgets in the 80's.
