Default Im about to kill my co worker!!

Everyday I have to work with this clown (actually my good buddy) that drives a 2002 TA Ram Air. I have to here his "domestic" talk, and how when I get my 86.5 finished he's gonna rape me a new *** on the pavement. I know his ride is a lot newer and better gears (six speed) but I tell him lets go "year for year" and see what happens...well all he says is some stupid crap about "but its a Porsche". WOW! thats all I can say. Im gettin tired of the pedistal people put a car with a name on and expect so much after 20 years. *done ranting.

It's like people expect any exotic to be fast, no matter what year it is.

Ferarri, Porsche, Lamborghini...

If your car has one of those names, and was named a "supercar", people will still want to race you, even if your car is 20 years old... It does not matter to them that they are in a brand new car. They will still brag to their friends about beating an exotic...

And I know that I did it too, back in my street racing days.
Killing a Ferarri was a great coup, even if it was some slow
Mondial or 308 from the 80's. It did not matter. You beat
a Ferarri, and that's all your friends care about...

I would say to him that he is too tough for me and that he wins no doubt about it and that someday maybe when I grow up to be a real man like him, maybe I too could have a super duper ride like he has. Then I would go about my business knowing there are actually people with IQs in the triple digits out there and someday I will meet some of them after I get promoted out of that guy's department. Don't worry about him following you up the ladder, because he won't. Just a matter of time before you will finally breathe in pure air instead of *** gas from him. Use him as the benchmark for bottom dweller in the extreme. Sheesh!!

Thanks for the calming replies. Now, lets get down to some smack down business. What and how much would it take to make sure I can woop his *** or at least stay even? I know that on the highway above 60 I have a better chance and that off the line I wont. 86.5 manual stock.

Tell him to come back in 2022. It's hard to take you on when his TA is in the junk yard. American cars are great.....for the first 5 years.

Sorry but your buddies LS1 will beat your in every way except in the twisties. The LS1s run mid to low 13s stock. His being an SS ahould be at least a low 13sec car. If you look at the owner's manual (14.2), that's one second fater than you. One second in 400m or 1/4 mile is A LOT.

First thing you should do is get a chip set and install it. That will give you ~25hp. Easiest and most cost effective way to wake up an early 32V 928. Then, the only thing left to make up the ramining hp is to add more air (turbo, supercharger, N2O)...OR you get bore out and stroke the engine, but that's a lot more $$$ that boosting it.

Another thing..... be carefull what you wish for, I beleive in the '89 production year the Trans Am had a limited production run that came with a turbo V6 (Grand National engine). There were only 200 made and they are really fast even in stock form. It's also possible that the turbo T/As started production in late '88, that only puts them a little over a year apart from your 86.5 928.

OR... you can do this.......http://norcal928.org/DIYSC/

Imo000, if your car is stock except chips and runs nice 13's like your profile says then why can I add some more goodies and do better without forced induction/N02.

What's the big deal if it is faster? In the scheme of things what difference does it make. Hell 928's weren't rocketships when new why would you get all bothered now by something 20 years newer? Why can't we just enjoy it for what it is instead of feeling threatened all the time.

Compared to what was being built back then, it was a rocket ship, and it is by no means slow. Bolt a supercharger on and then say its not a rocket ship.

He can do it in my neighborhood then and succumb to pissed off popos I just got nagged about front tinted windows and accused of speeding (he assumed I was and said he was an expert at it) because I have no mufflers on the car and acceleration DRONES. Anyways, tell your co-worker to accept my invitation to try and race on my roads. Then I'll kick his *** up and down the back roads where border patrol likes watching high performance sports cars go through the twisties.

That's cause for some strange reason my '85 was always stronger/faster than a stock '85-'86, S4 or a GT. Using my car as a bench mark for the early 32Vs is not a good idea. Just like using Sniper21's '83 16V Auto woudn't be a good idea either. Our two cars seem to run a lot faster than the norm. To be more realistic an early 32V, 5-speed, chipped should be able to break into the 13s.

There is no shame admiting that your car is in fact slower. There is and always will be someone that is faster than you/him. Don't worry he'll learn this really soon too. That's just how life is.

Stig,

Pulling out the "see you in the trwisties" excuse is not really valid here. The debate between him and his coworker is not about handling but brute acceleration. If your car is slower in a dreag race just admit it, don't try to counter BS with something else. It sounds too much as an excuse.
