Rear Hatch Panel Warping??
I've been SLOWLY restoring my 1980 928s euro for about a year now and it's coming along pretty well but there's one spot that's been driving me nuts because I know it's going to be a fortune to fix. The interior panel that goes on the rear hatch is warped...sort of. I think it's warped because it's sort of hanging off the hatch near where the hatch meets the roof. Right around the part where it's held on with those little plastic door clips. I can't hold it down with anything...especially not those little clips that barely work in the first place. Anybody have this happen to them before?? Anyone know a way to fix it that's not going to cost me hundreds?? Thanks

The panels can get wet and warp also the sun (heat) will have the same effect.
The cheapest solution would be to buy a replacement panel. What color?
The clips are easy to find and work well in a straight panel.
928 Int will help you out with used panel.
I think I have a dark brown and a black from my parts cars.

I have the same problem with my headliner. The particle board must have gotten wet and it has warped along the front and back. I haven't been able to figure out how to straighten it out, so I'd be interested to see if anyone else has figured out a way. I also don't want to spend a fortune on a non-sunroof headliner.

it's near impossible to straighten those 2 particular panels, the rear hatch panel generally warps due to moisture, check the hatch seal PRIOR to replacing the panel or you will have this occur again soon
Brian, the headliner is another TOTALLY diff issue, especially a non sunroof one.. your best bet may be to fabricate a new one unfortunately.. or be VERY patient and ready to jump on one when it becomes available... I asked 928I over a year ago to let me know when a straight one came in and havn't heard back so I assume they are impossible to find unless you get real lucky
I had an interior shop fabircate a new one for a customer and it was in the $600 range, but it was gorgeous! and much more padded than the original

Mine is the same due to a leaking hatch seal.
Heinrich has indicated that he has had success in removing the panel, wetting the warped area then placing the panel on a flat surface with a heavy weight on the warped sections and letting it sit for a few days to dry into the straightened shape.
Anyone else have success with that technique?

I have used epoxy resin and some glass cloth to fix a warped door panel. I covered the glass cloth with plastic wrap and clamped wood on both sides to hold the shape I wanted until the epoxy cured. The epoxy soaks into the fiberboard and makes it much more rigid.

Thanks, Guys. The headliner is warped at the front by the windshield and the back by the hatch right at the edges. Besides the warped particle board, the vinyl is in perfect shape. I haven't seen any leaks except for one down in the passenger footwell when I wash the car that I think is coming from a clogged drain in the firewall. I've been trying to ignore the headliner for the last few years, but its beginning to get on my nerves, especially in front where I can see it every time I'm driving.
Finding a shop who won't try to bend me over and make me grab my ankles is the really frustrating part. There aren't too many shops in my area that do interior work and the ones that do see a Porsche and see dollar signs.

I have a sunroof-less leather head liner in very good condition with two vanity lights that I might part with.
Came from the 84 parts car, brown leather - looks nearly black.
PM me and I will try and get pictures.
