Another thought is call DR. I think he's got a re-keying set (different tumblers). You could just re-key your locks to match another car or spare set of keys you have. Just think... one set of keys for all your cars! :rockon:

I got a new key from the factory based on VIN and a documented key number in owner's manual. Several weeks and a few $, but worked fine.

Scott just change the lock tumbler for the ignition not the whole column then you can restack the shims of all the other locks to work with the new ignition key.

Andrew/Jim;

I haven't had to play with that part of a 928 yet. Got any pics of the 928 tumblers?

EDIT: did a search, found some pics. Mahalo.

Scott,

I have a tumbler for an 86.5 that you can order keys for, and match the other locks to.

Scott-
Here's the thread I followed. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=re-key

It will take you to the UK 928 OC. They have a really nice writeup. Once you get into it, you'll be amazed at how simple these locks are. It's amazing how 1-2mm of metal can impede your ability to enter/start a car.

Mission mostly accomplished:
I ended up taking an ignition lock out of an 85 and installing it in the euro. Piece of cake. Bummer part is that the 85 is an alarm key so to get to the door locks I have to remove the door panels and unclip the alarm wire. No biggie, just minor (time crunch) set back.
Car purrs like a sabre tooth kitten. :)
