$50 a set I don't think so. Are you considering a lightweight set, Ken?

If there is a list, put me on it.

I haven't said anywhere in this thread that I'd be making any for anyone else*.

I don't want any bolt on parts, so there has to be left and right in a set.

$250 was the guessed powder coating price for when painting 10 at a time.

Aluminum will require a lot more overhead, and a bit of reengineering**.

I'm going to to make (myself) steel versions, spray painted black. Knowing what it costs to make a set like that, if I saw them for sale somewhere, I would be happy to buy a set for under $200***.

*I may need an S4 version if I buy a GT someday, of course.
** But I may do it later.
***Aluminum would be roughly double that.

You can actually fit these under your track car????? I wish my cars were that..ahem..HIGH!!!

I have a problem with bodywork extending out and down, so my effective ride height is too low to takle advantage of bar like this. In fact I would consider myself lucky if I can reach for the jack points with the jack alone. It's a problem on all my cars, except the convertible

Yeah, whatever. When does production start? Nothing like some Rennlist peer pressure.

I'm in too. (if it ever gets to that point) Nice work.

I hope to verify the dimensions on the S4> version this weekend.

Next I'm going to try downsizing the pipe to 1.5", and see if it is still sturdy enough. It would be nice if I could get the weight down to <20lbs each side, in steel.

Default Version deux

A couple more days in the shop...

18lbs each

I reduced the pipe size to 1.5", but thicker wall (sch. 80). I bought a pipe bender and bent the pipe to fit around the floor. The smaller pipe deflects more than the 2", so I made a reverse bend to compensate.

The smaller pipe put too much force into the middle of the car, so the anti-roll bar is gone. In it's place is smaller devices forward and back. The rear pin is gone, replaced by a short piece of pipe which fits in between the weld seam and the seat belt bolt. (This also means I don't have to deal with the jack hole tolerance problem!)

Now I have to revise the S4> version...

Does that mean you are coming over this weekend for more measurements?

Seems to be the real deal - easy up and down. I went around the car, and tried to push it off(!), and it remained steady.

...

Joe,

I might have a S4> bar to test ready today. I just need to know how wide the rear jack point is? It's like 2"x4" or so?

Went to Joe's and did a quick fitting. The S4> version looks like it can be used on either side*, yay!

If I was to take my GT (ha!) to the track, I could bring just one bar for changing the tires; one side at a time.

Tom,

I do have one lone piece that I didn't know what to do with (ya cheap bastard).

It's not my dinner, but I'll go if it's on. I need to reply to that PacNW928 thread.

Haha....

Thanks,..It'll really come in handy this April at the Track Attack...

I don't think you'll have too much trouble getting a couple of S4 owners to split the cost of a set..given the number of S4's in the pacnw...

Regarding the dinner..Yep..I knew it wasn't your deal...but consider you one of the sopacnwchap928ers...ie portland OR area owners haha......

I think it's planned for a Saturday in the next couple of weeks....(anyone in the area and not on PacNW 928 is welcome too I'm sure)...

Later,
Tom
