Default Sharktuner

I have been working with John Speake's Sharktuner for several weeks experimenting with various tuning situations and generally putting it through it's paces. John sent me his latest version of sofware, v1.06, a few days ago and I thought I'd pass along my thanks to John and say a few words about the changes. One of the best features is that you have a choice to select the load/rpm cell for tuning either by clicking on it with the mouse, or it will select automatically as load and RPM change. In a dynamic tuning situation, the load and rpm is rarely constant for very long. it's a lot more accurate to observe the mixture and either use the keyboard, or mouse, to adjust the mixture up or down in the active cell without having to select the cell first. That alone saves a lot of mis tuned map errors when you forgot to manually select a new cell to tune. He now has both mouse buttons and keyboard keys to increment/decrement the map value by 1, 10, or a percentage. You can also just type a number to change a map value. Logging can be started, or stopped by the space bar as well as a mouse button too. John cleared up a previous problem in Autotune at idle for cat equipped cars that do not have the manual mixture pot. Autotune also works better and gives a more reliable result than before. I find it best to not rely 100% on Autotune, but to use Autotune to get the mixture close, then refine manually. That's not required on all load/rpm cells, only a few. You can tune manually while Autotune is working so that is an added feature I like as well. There are probably a few more features I forgot about. These are the ones I like most.

Thanks for a great product John. Now, I can't wait for my dyno so I can have some real fun.

Enough with the titilation already!! When will it be available? Those of us with x pipes and cat back systems coming will need it soon.

Hi Brendan,
Yes, me too. You can be assured that the big emphasis will be on the "learning" part.

Hi Louie,
Many thanks for your assistance with evaluation and helpful comments to improve the SharkTuner !

It's been a pleasure working with you so far.

I also want to pay my thanks to Niklas, who worked with me to understand the LH hardware and software. He has written all the SharkTuner software, and has been very responsive to requests for updates. I addition to his demanding full time work, he has also developed his supercharged car as a test mule to aid development. He has done a excellent professional job on all fronts.

The SharkTuner is now available through 928 Specialists, as shown on their website. Delvivery time is typically 3-4 weeks.

The Ver 1.0.6 software and an updated User Manual will be sent to existing customers in the next few days.

Work is progressing well on the EZK version of the SharkTuner. The test jig is nearly ready for use in analysing the ECU hardware and software. We are looking forward to this phase of the development !

We hope that the SharkTuner will be the "tool of choice" for anyone wanting to optimise their modified 928...

I spend much time on my respective "tuning" site trying to learn by proxy until I have mine installed. www.msefi.com

I look forward to when Sharktuner will adapt both LH & EZK maps! All the boostards will be able to fine tune their setup perfectly!

Does this thing have ability to pull ignition timing as a function of manifold pressure and RPM?

Dave,
The 928sp web site shows a purchase price for the Sharktuner, but no rental price. Are you going to rent it out as you originally intended, and, if so, how much? You'll also need to figure a price for multiple use. There are al least four of us in the DFW area who will need it all at the same time.

C'mon Ernie... Just buy it! You know you want it. Then you can share with your friends.

BTW, the Shark Tuner is a product that has been truly lacking for the 928. This now brings the 928's tunability upto that of other current vehicles. I can't wait to tune mine.

Good work John!

Hi Ernest,

>Are you going to rent it out as you originally intended, and, if so, how much?

Pricing is not set yet, I have to get another SharkTuner (or 2), then another LC-1 Wideband system and work up the details. We do not plan on just renting the SharkTuner, we plan on rental of a "Tuning System" that has everything you need. We will of course just rent the SharkTuner for those that aleady have access to Wide Band O2 systems. This will take some time to sort out and is not quite at the very top of my list at the moment. I should have complete rental systems available by early spring (March/April).

> You'll also need to figure a price for multiple use.

It will be based on a weekly rate, not "per user", but the Chip Burning Price if desired will be based per chip set.

>There are al least four of us in the DFW area who will need it all at the same time.

Smart!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm jealous, almost makes me wish I had a S4. Any chance a version for the 85-86.5 models will become available?
