Default pedal adjustment for the shorter person

The Car and Driver story says that the pedels on the 928 can be adjusted to benefit shorter persons. How is this accomplished? Are there instructions somewhere on the 'net? Thanks.

The gas pedal and the dead pedal are adjustable. The dead pedal has three positions, not sure about the gas pedal. Get in there and look at it, should be fairly obvious how it's done. IIRC brake and clutch pedals are not adjustable, but one could attach special blocks to them to bring them closer to the driver.

Must be some documentation referring to the "pedal adjustability"...I can't imagine someone a lumpy as Brock Yates crawling around the floor board to make such a "discovery". I KNOW my 86 owners manual makes no reference to the pedal adjustment feature...and don't recall seeing any reference to it in the sections of the manuals I have perused either.

See page 20-10. It doesn't go into great detail, but there should be three sets of bolt holes for the base of the pedal, and you can adjust the pushrod and cables to get full travel set up right.

The dead pedal is a bit more complicated. Take a good look at where it is now, especially the base where a pin fits into one of three holes. Pick a location, then line up the bolt holes and put it back together. IIRC there is one bolt hole in the kick panel(outboard side of dead pedal) and several holes in the dead pedal. On the other(inboard) side of the dead pedal, there is one bolt hole in the dead pedal and several holes in the sheet metal behind it; you will have to move the speed nut to the desired position to line up with the bolt hole in the dead pedal.

It probably took longer to type that than it would take to grab a 10mm wrench and eyeball it for yourself.

There are 2 well maybe 3 separate adjustments you can do. as said in previous post,,, First the gas pedal's mounting point has a few holes to choose from. 2nd, the throttle cable can be lengthened or shortened. In other words the gas pedal to cable cam has a double heim joint like connector. It allows the gas pedals start point to be adjusted fore and aft,,,, down and away from you or up and closer to you. attached picture
3rd, on my 90 and 95 the throttle cable has another lengthen or shortening adjustment at the firewall under the hood. 2nd pic
Pull your floor mat out, them pull the carpet back, then look behind the pedal and at its base.

Hope this helps,

PS, Carroll Smith and Alan Prost both have a section that talk about the positions. In summary I started with the throttle pedal a half inch to an inch below the brake pedal at 90% brake position/depression. It makes heal toe So much smother

Well ...I went and checked for myself, and indeed, the Gas pedal, and the "Dead Pedal" are "adjustable" for "height challenged" individuals, OR tall persons.. That is...they have a lateral row of selectable bolt holes, allowing adjustment of the base of the pedals, closer to dash..., or closer to the driver seat,... to accomodate the legs of different height drivers. Nice touch, and I guess it seemed appropriate (given the time at which this article was written)...to mention such a "Creature Comfort" as "adjustable pedals" in a C & D Magazine review of the vehiclethat was destined to receive numerous" Car of the Year" awards that year. It IS a sad note though, that launched with such pomp by Porsche, and received so favorably initially by the media and public...that Porsche was unable to follow up on their "this is the future of Porsche" theme, with an effective "long term" strategy to keep the 928 in production past 1995.

Check to see if you can adjust the seat rails, move the seat to its rear most position, look at the mounting points on the front seat rails, if you see empty holes toward the front of the car; Repositioning the rails forward will bring you closer to the pedals.

Here at the Thrifty sHARk Mart I believe our universal wood block pedal extensions are just what the doctor ordered.
Our custom foot fit(s), CFF, come in a variety of exotic wood laminates and thichnesses.
For the playful diminutive sHARk owner we can also do a foot/toe reproduction-please send a plaster cast imprint- with either the traditional flat surface or a fully recessed imprint style.
Ortothics and electric foot warmers/massagers, are of course, extra.
Joking aside, if the pedals are indeed adjustable I'll set aside another laurel wreath for the 928 Team.
While most of us are at the other end of the spectrum we know the situation you are facing can rob you of perfection. In my case, while I use my sunroof all the time, I suffer from the dreaded baseball cap 'beanie button bump' if I don't stay focused.
I suppose the 'hacksaw cure' would be a bit much to ask of those who breath rarified air.

Perhaps you've had ONE "Beanie Button Bump", too many John. Most probably, this contributed heavily to the "upwards of $100 K pricing" that eventually doomed the 928 ! (You know I'm kidding ...right?)

Here in Seattle where the poiticalcorectnessnazis rule, it's oh-so gauche to use the slur "short". It's now "Not-long-bread cookies"; "baseball fielding position between second and third base"; etc.

So I'd say in Seattle terms the 928 was designed to be adjustable for "drivers with a vertically lower line of sight"

I've got them cheesy clamp-on metal pedal covers.
Brings the pedals about 1/8 to 1/4" closer to the seat.

Looks racy tho. Or is that too Ricer.

If they would have made that clutch pedal adjustable, I might have considered another GT. But as it is, I did not want to wear platform shoes on my left foot only... (actually, I don't like wearing platform shoes in general)
