Engine Compartment Light
Hi Sharks...I'm trying to get the light in my engine compartment to work. All other lights and electronics in the car work GREAT! I've checked the fuses, replaced the bulb, cleaned the contacts etc., still no light. Any ideas?

If I had to guess, I'd say that you probably didn't have your parking lights or headlights on when you did all that troubleshooting. You might want to turn those on with the hood open and see what happens.

spent a long time on trying to fix my underbonnet light before I switched on the main lights; I thought it worked same as my Mustang - independent of the main lights

My solution was to remove the light altogether. I thought it looked like a POS and probably would not provide enough light to see anything of value.
On a related topic, if you really want to see something, take a look at the new (10X brighter) white LED flashlights. These are just a little bigger than a typical penlight but put out a brilliant white light that lets me see under the intake manifold like nothing before. It is not just the brightness but the purity of the light itself. It is a noticeable leap in lighting technology. I got 2 for $26 at BJ's

For those that actually DON'T work, if you feel the need to check the mercury switch mounted in the socket, be V. careful when you release it. Mine shot out like a rocket and went down and hid on the top of the a/c condenser, which is nigh invisible from above or below. Then the actual problem was the wire, which had broken near the hole at the 'screen edge of the bonnet, requiring a replacement bit (not the whole thing, don't go there).
