Hi Gang - Wow what a thread this car has become!!!

OK I want to clarify a few things....
1) I feel completely confident working on this car and bringing it back to a condition where it is fun to drive and reliable. There is actually much more room in the engine compartment than I thought. I have built some pretty neat machines over the years and this 928 does not intimidate me, which is why I am considering it.

2) I refuse to hand over any money unless I hear it turn over, start and idle, I also refuse to change the TB before I buy it, if I do decide to buy it, then I will get on the TB and WP replacement right away. I will only buy the car if I can get it at a reasonable price I am thinking $5grand or less....money talks...bull$hit walks.

3) Electrical gremlins do scare me....depending where they are...power windows OK, fuel pumps not OK!

4) Granted this car does have a weired chequered past and has S4 wheels and the S4 rear spoiler and there are other good clean cars out there I could buy, having this local to me and the fact it is a Euro 5speed does intrigue me. If the price is right then I will be all over it and make it somewhat of a project car, my intention is not to dump loads of money into it, but rather enjoy for what it is which is a $6-7,000 used sports car, I am not buying it to win the Concour's D'Elegance at Pebble Beach this year, but something to take for a blast down the interstate to work.

5) As this car is located in the desert here, I am not worried about moisture affecting things like the brake pistons etc etc, the emergency brake still works and releases fine as I rolled the car back and forth after engaging it and dis-engaging it.

I will also do a compression and leak down on the car before buying it, as I have those gauges and a big air compressor at home.

Regards and thanks for all the (interesting) comments

last year i purchased an 84 euro cheap. it ran like crap when i got it and spent the last year fixing it. some of the items i replaced were: mass air sensor, plugs, wires, caps, rotors, temp sensors, twin dist rotor belt, professionally clean injectors, fuel filter, air filter, tires, etc. All that stuff probably cost $1500 or so. then i had to take the tranny out and fix the 1st gear synchro (reason I got it cheap) this cost around $700 including $200 for some professional labor, the rest was in parts.

total i've spent so far is around $3k and i still need to take care of several issues. just my experience with crappy maintained euros, but the ac blows cold!
