How did you get into 928's?

The first time I ever saw a 928 was in 1980. I was a sophomore in high school and the 928 was in the AC/DC video 'Let There Be Rock' with Malcolm racing a bi-plane in a then new 1980 928. He cut some serious doughnuts and was driving the car with the headlights up since it was dusk in parts of the video. I remember saying that's the Porsche with the V8. Then of course, there was Risky Business.. I never saw a 928 in person until I was stationed in Germany in 1985. A guy on post had one and I caught him getting in his car and told him how awesome of a car I thought it was. We continued to bump into each other and eventually became friends. The first time I ever rode in the car, we were heading to Wurzburg to go out to some clubs. I remember when we got on the Autobahn and he ran the '84 Euro through the gears and hit 250/kph in what seemed like an instant. I felt as if my feet were coming off of the floor. Then I realized how smooth the car was and the stability just put me at ease. I swore that day I would somehow someday own a 928. I am so happy to own one because it is one of the finest cars ever made, period. And it is a total joy to drive everytime I do.

A short ride to his house, a bit of inspection, a check for $16K and I was on my way for the 500 mile ride home. About half way home, cruising at high speed down I-5, I came to the conclusion this is best car I've ever owned. It's only gotten better in the 80K miles since then.
I was sitting in my home office thinking about my upcoming 20 year high school reunion, wow could I really be that old? I’d been socking away a little money over the years and decided it was high time to buy a fun car. After doing a little internet research, I decided the 928 sounded interesting.
I started watching a few on eBay as well as scouring Cars.com. Then one night after a few extra brews, I got brave and started bidding on one. Woke up the next morning wondering if I dreamt the whole thing, checked ‘my eBay’, and low and behold I had won.
I flew to Cleveland Burke Lakefront with cashiers check in hand. Visually inspected it for about 10 minute, test drove it to the closest bank, drop the guy off at his business and drove her home.
At the time I had never heard, seen, or driven a 928 so I didn’t know what to expect. I vaguely remember an attorney on my paper route as a kid who had a Porsche with the headlights pointing up and a funky checkered board interior. All I know it was red and black just like my High School colors and looked really really cool.
Fast forward 2.5 years and I’m not regretting it one bit. Sure at times, I wish I had a GT or a 5 speed and someday I still might and ironically, ‘Lowmiler’ only lives a few miles away as well as probably one of the best 928 mechanics in the state.
Until I joined Rennlist, I was funneling way too much money to the mechanic. Now, I can’t get enough of Rennlist, so I find myself reading the one year old stuff and from time to time resurrecting older threads. I think I’m addicted.
Anyhow, I’m guessing there are a few other new interesting stories out there.

I have always been a die-hard Pontiac man. Loved my TA's. Always said "someday a 928". I had made a goal list in 1989 and #3 or #4 was to get a 928. Well a couple years later caught the ex cheating. I ended up with everything. House, cars etc. Found the old list one night. Spring of '94 bought my "84. My life got even better when I got custody of my daughter.

I was a kid, maybe 10-11 in the early 80's. I was watching T.V. with my dad (muscle car nut). We were watching Motor trend or something similar and they were profiling/testing an early model (82 or 83 mabye) 928. My dad kept going on and on about how he really liked the lines of the car-and most importantly- that it had a V-8. That always stuck with me, cause I liked the car too. It wasn't until years later, when I was in my mid 20's, that my brother in law bought an 83 Euro. He spent a ton of money on it, including a complete engine overhaul after the original motor went south. He took me for a ride after the rebuild and I was hooked. He really rung the thing out for me.
Years later again, my dad bought a 1984 US Auto. He kept it for a couple of years, and then sold it to me for half of what it was worth. I thought I was the luckiest guy alive. Financial reasons forced me to sell only after 1.5 years of ownership. But I swore I would have another someday. And now I do. I bought my current 87 US Auto last April.

An uncle owned one of the first 500 produced "924" (the poor basterd) when I was just a wee young teen...and I was hooked on something so not normal...a front enging Porsche. His 924 later got rear-ended and spoke many times of replacing it with Porsches "new" 928 coming out. He never did buy one, but I did almost some 30 years later
That's my story and I'm stick'en to it.

I went to a School of Technology in Calgary (SAIT) in 82 and 83. In 82, the local Porsche dealership brought one into the school and parked it in the hallway for us to look at. I had never seen such a beautiful car in my life - still haven't. Finally managed to get one 3 years ago.

Birthrights to the car, 092866 me and first year of car 092877.
The first invitation was getting a Tandy RC 928 for my birthday.
The first real engagement was going for a ride in a guards red at age 16.
This begins the obsession!

The love affair started in the summer of '83...Risky Business was in the theatres...and today I have an '86.5 and an '89 sitting in the garage. 928's are the first P-cars I have owned and I don't see that changing anytime soon! What an awsome car, and the looks you get when driving it...priceless!

Good stories guys...
I was in high school, probably back in 94' or therabouts'... My parents talked me into taking a trip with them out to this winery, just a couple hours outside of Baltimore.
There I saw it A Silver GT-S with BBS LMs...I WAS HOOKED
I had seen them before on TV, hwy. etc, but after seeing it upclose and personal I just could get enough of it, still can't. I sat there on a log eating my little cubes of cheese from the wine tent telling myself I WILL OWN a 928. Did I mention it was Fall, up in the mountains, smell of wood burning...
Yeah I had a couple of other crushes along the way, but in the end, I got my dream car...

I've told this story to some co-workers, and someone at SITM, so it's cool to share it here too.
In high school I worked at this German car repair shop called "AutoMeister"... it had previously been called "PorscheWorks", but he had to change it apparently. Started when I was 14 just cleaning up and doing odd jobs. Worked there for the next three years and learned all kinds of things. Bodywork, engines, transmissions, etc.
Most of the time there were cool cars in there... lots of old 911's and 914's... this was from '83 to '87 so just a few of the front engine stuff. There were two brothers that owned a clothing store chain, and they both lived in this little town I grew up in, Columbus Indiana. Each had 928's, one had a white auto, and the other a black five speed... probably were '85's. I got to do service on the two cars, and actually drive one to his house to return it... what an amazing vehicle.
I've had a couple of 914's before when I was young, but I really have been lusting after the 928 forever, and I'm pretty hooked...
