Porsche 928 Workshop Manuals
Hey!
I have these on my comp and always wanted to make them shareable with other people. But becouse they take 250M space(packed), I didn't get a site and didn't put them out. But I decided to exploit peer to peer file sharing
The file is a .rar archive. It is around 250M.
Tell me if it works...

I've loaded eMule, connected, found the servers and files.......but can't seem to figure out how to actually download. I think I'm sitting in queu, but can't really tell. It's hard to do the steep learning curve while trying to actually make it work. Will keep trying.

Now, it becomes a moral dilemma…..what do to?
1. Buy a copy directly from Jim.
2. If it’s Jim’s copy, send him the money after the download?
3. Download it and call it a day?
After all Vilhuler did pay for this twice and is willing to share the files at no cost. I’m certain that Vilhuler was not aware that this was Jim’s work.

Nice argument Klim but it doesn't hold. Jim first made only WSM and much later did totally different 2 CD set containing all these other documents. Even later 2 CD set grew to 3 CD's and yet they and WSM were and still is separate "products". I'm not saying what you have is 100% surely Jim's, it's just extremely likely that it is. It's true at least one complete WSM scan exists which was not done by Jim. It's quality is worse than even early scans Jim sold way back. Now why would anyone want it when Jim's later version with full text search is available for really nominal fee compared to work it took to put it together? True, Porsche still owns copyright of the material. Though I don't know which is larger crime, selling scanned WSM or giving it for free. If anyone is giving WSM for free might as well give out the best version. Any other than Jim's latest searchable is not worth giving.

Well, the point of this was not to give the best version but to give some base to new "sharkers" like I was 2 years ago. You should agree that WSM and Rennlist will fix anything on a 928. So, even though the Jim's manual is the best, WSM is still WSM and people still buy it for 300-400$. I did not spend 70$ on Jim's WSM which is probably a mistake, but I got a WSM and I want to share it. Now we are talking about bureaucratic regulations, which I am against. If I would put this out on FSP server, nobody would ask any questions, but peer-to-peer is different... Also, the base info in manuals is extremely helpfull in the purchase of the vehicle. So, my position is that instead of trying to shot this down becouse of some bureaucracy, it would be more prudent, as a member of the shark community, which are endangered species, to help in any way possible to save each of this beatifull cars. I think that wide spread info for free will be extremely helpfull in reaching this goal. If you are against it, then go and buy WSM from Porsche for some huge amount of money. And what I am doing is not a crime, beouse neither Jim, not anyone on EBay who sells WSMs has a Porsche license, so, it is them who did the crime, I just made it free.

P.S. I repeat this are not Jim's manuals, this are just WSMs, so I don't want in any way to destroy Jim's business. As I heard he has huge amount of surplus info in his manuals, and it is a great deal for 75$. But I think WSM base should be free...

Klim,
Some corrections. If the FWSM you're sharing has a file called 'table of contents w links', then its the version I did (as noted in the thread referenced above). The other version out there is an 'image only' pdf and is not text searchable. I charge $40 for the wsm cd which includes pet6, not $70. The 'surplus' material you mention must be the other cd set, the technical manuals. This is a collection of around 85 or so of the training manuals Porsche published to train dealer mechanics, plus some additional material. That 3 cd set is $30. No, I don't have 'rights' to this material and so can't really can't be too outraged at you're sharing my version for free....I'd obviously rather you didn't, but that's your call since I certainly can't stop you.

I checked it, and it has a pdf file which is TOC, but no links so I assume it is in WSM originally. Sorry about price mix up, I just heard on some other thread people recommending other people to buy your version for 75$. By saying surplus, I meant extra, not unnecessary extra(english is not my native). There are web sites which sell the same manuals for 20$. They scanned it themselves, i belive, cause they have their logo on each page. They don't have any license also, so, i could share this version if it makes any difference. THe pdf files are text searcheble. In the end, I belive in democracy, and I could do poll on people for or against base WSMs being free.
Again, sorry for errors,

I've personally SEEN three different versions of WSM I believe by 3 different people. The Morehouse version is the best. I moved sometime ago and have not got the latest one, but I'm working on correcting that.

It is quite easy to add watermarks on top of pictures and make ones work "his own". I think I have seen same pdf set with few different logos on each page depending on who's selling it.

I support Morehouse 100%. The man has charged a VERY reasonable price and done a LOT of work. I'd pay him rather than have them free. Plus, his work has an unbelievable amount of pieces you cannot get anywhere else, together.
