Porsche 928 Workshop Manuals
#16
"That 3 cd set is $30. No, I don't have 'rights' to this material and so can't really can't be too outraged at you're sharing my version for free." - Jim Morehouse -
An obvious copyright violation, and as such should NOT be promoted on Rennlist
whether they're for free or not!
The actual Porsche produced manuals can be purchased from 928 International
for a very reasonable price.

THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED. The end result was, Porsche gave up their copyright. I'm not a lawyer, that's just what was said before here on Rennlist. Also don't forget Porsche are not producing the manuals anymore.

A bad assumption by a DIY attorney or an actual Porsche statement?

For argument sake, lets say that it's not jim's WSM.
Somebody scanned all those pages and turnd it into a .pdf file so making it easier to transport and view on a PC and print the required pages when needed. You are still giving away another "man's" time and effort....Why don't you buy the printed version , scan it and give that away!? I don't think anybody here would have a problem with that.
Having said that, I'm no moral police. You do whatever you want. I guess you already knew that...

Maybe comparable, maybe not, but my local library has all kinds of shop manuals for various cars. Anyone can borrow them, use them, the library even has a photocopier that you can use. Do libraries have a "special" exemption from copyright infringement laws? Why is what they do any different from me posting WSM that I have purchased on the internet for others to share, other than libraries are "old" technology?
