I'm beginning to suspect that one of my phone dials is out-of-round. Luckily my shark's PO was my father so I have the complete history of the 928. Long story short, interstate work on I-12 during comute to work, 4" tall lip at concrete seam at 90mph = new track rods + one bent phone dial in the front + four wheel alignment. The shark had new tires installed about 5,000mi before I became the proud owner so I would have thought the remaining bent wheel would have been caught at this point. I really suspect that both front wheels were bent and the one remaining bent rim was rotated to the rear when the new tires were installed.
I've read that one can perform a quick and dirty rear axle check by grabbing the shaft (while car is on ramps) and attempting to rotate. There should be very little to no play evident. I've done this check and no play evident.
Anyway, I've got a set of the 8"X16" phone dials that I plan on installing, so if a bent rim is the case this should take care of it.
