Default Returning to stock

Is there any trend that older 928's have a tendency to be returned to stock spec as opposed to newer (S4 onward) being more likely to be modified to varying degrees?

As the cars become identified more as 'classics' are we more likely to see a trend of reverting to stock (such as E-type jaguars for example) as in the classic world originality seems to be of greater value.

Don't panic i'm not some 928 purist who thinks all cars should be as stock (see my signature....) I appreciate both outlooks - I love the OB low mileage green 928 (forget who the lucky owner is) as much as some of the boosted and modded cars.

bert, i think your question is very interesting. its an ongoing consideration i have with respect to my SE and whether or not it will become tastefully altered. ive completely given up on the S2 with respect to originality.

ive seen a lot of fully restored e-types, that have had complete re-spray and mechanical re-builds - they allways look very nice. as for completely original i dont know, they would be incredibly tatty now wouldnt they, unless they were kept with very low miles?

either way, original or restored, i agree that this will become more topical as time passes. i suppose its only natural that the earlier cars are either destined for the track or for restoration, the trouble with the later ones is that they are too good to be taken off the street!

It is an interesting question...
I think that with all cars, as they become increasingly rare, people become increasingly fascinated with stock or resto-stock because of the timewarp quality. Viewing an old classic transports us to "I remember when...", and gives material presence to our memories. This is nostalgia.

It seems to me that the 928 is just starting to become old enough and rare enough to rekindle peoples' sense of awe and generate nostalgia. I also think market prices appear to have stabilized, and that these cars are at the bottom of their depreciation cycle, such that their market values should start climbing from here. For good examples, that is; I don't think that in ten years, a good condition, fairly original S4 will be worth less than it is today.

Any thoughts?
