Ron,
still getting use to this car. Very different than my 911. The kick down switch only works when I absolutely floor it. Then all hell brakes loose.
I was thinking of upgrading to Redline synthetic trans. fluid very shortly along with Redline synthetic final drive gear oil. Redline claims a few more ponies due to substantially less friction than conventional oils.

Ron,
I agree I think sniper has a very creative and workable solution. Still havent ever heard mine run yet but all you guys here have given me tremendous insight into alot of things i need to focus on. Had wondered if pin in trans was worn or loose but not going to worry about it now. Get rest of parts tomorrow so hoping to hear it run sometime soon.

"Not in an 86!!!!"
LOL, in my 83 A/T 2d gear goes from 54 to 98mph.
So almost all real world driving is second gear territory in my Shark. Which is fine, because my second gear is a monster.

My '86.5 shifts into 4th at +/- 135 mph. 80 mph sounds in the range for third for my automatic or maybe a bit higher. To pass on the freeway, I kickdown and hit 3rd at 60 mph or so, or I can kick farther down and it hits 2nd and shakes my teeth loose. At least that's how it seems to be. I'll have to go test it soon and confirm my suspicions. The 135 figure is accurate for sure. Of course someone told me that; how else would I know? Right. Sure.

It won't get to 80 though in second will it? If it does, you're really hammering it into redline territory.... right?

Does that sound right?"
That's pretty common on most cars. Apply the P brake before you put it in park.

NOTE 8 - The A28 4 speed Auto.
“The transmission requires the regular use of the 'Park' position lock in order to fully lubricate an inter-component seal - worth remembering.”

In 3rd @ 5000rpm, I'm at 130mph(210kmh) in my 84.
I have not looked or tested the 2nd high end rpm/mph.
I don't know about other 928 year but if I select 2nd from stand still, it will start AND stay in 1st up to +/- 5000rpm regargless of how much I depress the pedal, probably higher if I'd floor it. From what I gather, it does not appere(sp) to be that way for some of you guys?

However, if the engine mount are bad, and engine has dropped, or the pad has deteriorated, then heat can enter the cabin into the console area. Check and see if it still gets hot with the cabin closed. If the temp of the shifter is lower, then the problem is one of the above.

Mine does that too, and holds first until 5400-5500rpm(usually, sometimes it shifts at 5k, for whatever reason), whether i'm at WOT or not.
