MAF compatibility question
 

Are MAFs from any other cars compatible with 928s?

It would be much easier to test for a bad MAF if I could just pull one off a Volvo, SAAB, VW, or Land Rover.

tHE 928 LH MAF is same part no the whole of its life, and common with some BMW, but no others that I could find. Find a Bosch EFI parts pdf shoing makes, models and efi part nos.....

There was also 200 or so very special Audi quattros -homogolated (?) for road use.

I'm sure someone on the list could lend you a spare but serviicable MAF. Are you fault finding ?

I'm planning on doing some fault finding if I get the car running next time I work on it. I don't know that there is anything wrong with it but the car has over 100,000 miles, idles a little rough, and runs rich. I have replaced the plugs (rethreaded one in the head) and fixed some large vacuum leaks which have fixed most of the issues. If I could find a car that is common that has a compatible MAF I'd try swapping (I may be getting a spare 1997 SAAB 900 MAF this week). If not, I'll wait until Frenzy to borrow one from another 928 to test.

If it's running very rich, then this could be the O2 sensor.

Alternatively there is a MAF design error which gives thermal runaway and hence rich mixture.

Have you tried unplugging the MAf for limp home mode ?

I don't think you will find the SAAB MAF compatable, mechanically or electrically.

You can "borrow" a MAF from me on a sale or return basis.

Anders should've been able to answer this question... he asked it on a Swedish 928 board last year!
The MAF is supposed to be compatible with the list below which are used in BMW E34 3.6L M5s, Audi RS2s, and Audi Quatro 2.1L 20V Turbo.

Does Bosch supercede part numbers like Porsche? Would a 0 280 214 004 be compatible? It is used in Mercedes 500s.

I agree about M5 and the Audi quattro. But the RS2 uses the same MAF as the 968, and this is smaller dia than the 928 unit.
