Default Simple rear wheel harness retaining grommet fix

Hi all,

I was buttoning up the last few items under the rear end as part of replacing the rear transmission cooler lines, pan gasket, and filter today when I noticed that all of the rubber wire retaining grommets on the harness going from the spare tire well to each rear wheel had disintegrated. The harness was hanging down on both sides. Some type of fix to get the harness secured up out of the way in it's proper place was in order. After scrounging around the garage I found just the ticket: 3/8" id braided fuel line. I cut four pieces about an inch long, then split them down the length of one side to make sleeves. After slipping these sleeves over the wire bundle at the appropriate locations I was able (with some reach extenders) to work the hose-covered wire harness into the original harness retaining brackets. They are a very tight fit to get in past the narrow opening of the harness brackets, but once installed hold the wire securely up out of the way without pinching or kinking the harness. I was rather pleased with the results.

Unfortunately it did not last long as when I went to install my rebuilt Oil Cooler lines I discovered the hose shop rebuilt the hose on the lower line about 3/8" too short So I am stopped on getting the PS system put back in until I get them to re-re-build that hose the right length. Oh well, I'll disconnect the steering rack u-joint and re-clock the steering wheel to the proper position. NOPE!!! no one open today had a 12 x 1.5 MM bolt to turn into a rack centering bolt With tomorrow being Easter I doubt I'lll get any wrench time before i have to head off for another out of town work assignment. Oh well, it will just be that much sweeter when it is all done and I can start driving instead of dreaming.

Cheers

Mike
