I have good days and bad days with acceleration. Lately there have been more bad. Somedays I'll punch the accelerator and the car will jump off the line throwing the passenger in the back seat.
Recently she started to limp out of the start, only reaching a good kick once it hits 50 or more. There still seems to be some sluggishness at that level, but not nearly as bad as the starts.
It happens a lot when trying to accelerate on the freeway for using onramps from a stop.
Any suggestions on what might be the first thing to check out?
Check your throttle cables. From the pedal all the way to the throttle body and from the trans, if its an automatic. Check adjustments and for any loose brackets and check for binding or places they might get hung up.
I pulled off the MAF last night, cleaned out all the contacts and checked them for voltage. Things seem to work just fine. I ran the car for a bit with it out and it seemed to work just fine, but actually ran a bit worse. During this test, I had both plugs undone. Was the sensor supposed to be plugged in?
That being the case, what else might I look at to improve my acceleration performance?
I have good and bad days like this as well, but I haven't investigated why (yet). From what I've read, my MAF may be suspect. I have more research to do before I make any assumptions...I haven't tested it at various temps to determine if it only happens while hot, etc. It idles steady and has 82k miles on it.
Considering John Speakes track record and low price for testing the MAF, that would be my first shot. (It was probably my 152nd when I had the hesitation bug, I still wish it had been my first ...)
I do offer a "try before you buy" service in the USA as the logistics of testing are more difficult. If you buy one of my MAFs that fixes the problem, I can always let you know what the calibration was of your old unit when it gets back to me.
Hi
You basically Paypal me the 350USD plus 100USD core charge. I send you a rebuilt MAF. If it doesn't fix the problem, then you return the MAF undamaaged to my agent in NY. I will then refund your 450USD less my out of pocket expenses - about 30USD.
If you keep the rebuilt MAF, then when my agent receives your old MAF I refund your 100USD core charge.
