"What do you think?"

I just bought a Escort 8500 X50 and I am AMAZED at the performance. I picked up a cop doing radar in the city 1 MILE away!!! (K Band).

I spent allot of time on www.radardetector.net and from what I have seen the X50 VS the Valentine 1 are almost identical in performance in Radar detection. The V1 has better laser protection but in the latest tests http://www.radarbusters.com/support/...05/Default.asp the V1 failed to pick up KA POP radar.

The best set up IMHO would be either a V1 or Escort X50 combined with the Blinder M20 laser shifter.

I am in agreement with you on the Escort X50 and the Blinder M20. I would like a concealed set up. In your research how does the Escort SR7 stack up against the V1 and 8500?

Check out http://www.radarbusters.com/support/product-tests/2.asp

I saw on the forum that someone talked with Escort and they said the SR7 is the same as the Passport 8500 the version before the 8500 X50. In Radar Roy's test the X50 beat the Sr7 by .3 miles and that is close but a small difference could make a difference over 60 MPH.

The Sr7 did not do as well as the Blinder in the latest laser jamming tests. The Blinder jammed 92% of the time and the SR7 jammed 86% of the time.

If you really want a built in unit I do not think the differences are that great but every little bit helps. I heard that many places that stocked the SR7 did not sell them and are willing to make a deal on them. I have seen them on Ebay for between $600-$700 with shifters but Ebay has no warranty's.

If the ole Eyball Mark II continues to outperform the K40, you might want to look around. Maybe do some drives with others who have other detectors, and stay in contact via FRS radio. The SRX has really nice displays that show you the signal strengths of some bogeys, which is kind of nice. You're in WA, right 00? If so I'd say save up for some blinder/shifter technology since that's what you need up there to stay out of hot water. I'm sure the radar detection in those units are quite adequate. I still think the best setup for that area might be something like SRX + V1... but fortunately laser isn't really a threat in these parts so I find the V1 to be plenty. Bottom line is, you have to go with what you think will work best for you.... and be open to new information. Countermeasures always lag the curve a bit, so you have to keep re-evaluating them in light of changing threats(or even your own opinion of what you're getting out of the setup). Hopefully the experimentation is not too expensive.
