Default Burping Air from coolant...

I need to burp the air out of my shark and I have searched on how to do it, but I have not been able to find a good description. I have never done the procedure before on any car, so treat me like an idiot. The capacity is supposed to be around 16 liters for coolant, and I was going for a 50/50 mixture of green and H20, so I flushed the coolant system and poured in two gallons of coolant 3.79 liters each, and poured in about 2/3 of a gallon of H20 and it wouldn't take anymore. I ran the engine with the heater on full blast and the level doesn't change. Is my thermostat malfunctioning? Thanks.

There was water trapped in the engine block.

You're referring to the water left from flushing it? That makes sense. Now how do I get the air out of the cooling system?

Did you remove the engine block plugs under the car to completely drain the block? Or did you drain the rad only?

The 928 cooling system is self burping the vent hose on the top of the radiator and the vent hose on the back of the thermostat housing which is connected to the reservoir are on the highest points of each. Cycling the heater valve assure that the heater core is filled. The coolant reservoir which is deliberately positioned higher than anything else in the cooling system believes in it's heart and soul that it is mounted on top of and part of the radiator and acts accordingly. The 944 with the reservoir low near the radiator did have a bleed screw on the thermostat housing to allow you to manually release the air bubble which could be trapped in a 944 engine BUT the flagship best of the best 928 was designed so this would not be necessary.

Jim,
I understand that an air bubble can still form and the best thing to do is to but the front end up on jacks, or the curb, etc. and then go through the heater valve process etc. Whadda ya think!!!! any validity to that technique.

In my opinion , squeezing the hoses etc. simply keeps you occupied until the system opens the thermostat and circulates enough to fully purge. It certainly does not HURT anything but I am very doubtful that it helps.

Where does the "must burp" the 928 mindset come from? What Jim says is true - he is the 928 meister of the west.

If you really feel that you must do something, remove the small hose from the top of the radiator and let any air out that may be there. Odds are, you'll find no air and only fluid will rush to say hellow.
