Default Sharks At Tahoe Recap!!

Thanks to Tim and Cheryl for hosting a great event! They both put in tons of hard work to make this happen!

In short a great event. Weather looked kinda iffy, but turned out fine! Got to meet many of the Socal 928ers for the first time, along with other Norcal 928ers. George took photos (should follow soon) & all the cars ran without any problems (except for one flat tire)! Incredible scenery on the fun drives. I look forward to attending next year!

Default A few photos

Brian,

I wanted to also thank Tim and Cheryl for putting on a wonderful event. We
really enjoyed it. It was also great seeing all you 928 owners again.

Here are a few photos, I'll post more on my website once I finish sort them out
(I took over 950 pictures, so it'll take some time).

This was an incredible event! It very much exceeded all my expectations - if there was a rating from 0 to four stars (four for perfect), I would give it FIVE. Because

- it was PERFECTLY organized,
- had the right amount of activity versus socializing (kept us busy, but was never hectic),
- included a great banquet (for which we had to walk all the way from California to Nevada...)
- the fun drives were both scenic and safe; Tim and Cheryl did a wonderful job of keeping the group together!
- There were a good number of people (all nice ones, of course), but not too many. So we actually had time to get to know each other a little better - or just catch-up
- We were able to confirm that Bill really DOES have a wife... (very nice she is!)
- Tim and Cheryl opened their beautiful home for the finale today, for a barbecue luncheon and Formula 1 race watch.

Well, one thing is very clear: Tim and Cheryl know how to throw a party! I get the impression they have practiced that before.... Hopefully they will practice on us again next year!

Thanks, thanks, thanks - this was sooo much fun!

I already gave my baby a bath, but I did not throw it out with the bath water...

Betsy and I also would like to again thank Tim and Cheryl for a fantastic weekend of Porche 928 activites. The lake Tahoe area is breathtaking in beauty and diversity. There are so many great people behind all the 928s, and events like this enable us to get to know each while enjoying our common thread.

I have to second all the positive comments above. I literally just got home and am still smiling about the whole weekend. This event is the model of how all other events should hope to turn out. Tim and Cheryl's hard work definitely paid off and then some, everything went perfectly & no mishaps! I sure hope we can do this again next year. All you SOCAL 928'ers that had thought about going but didn't, REALLY missed out. I mean come on!!! Louie Ott was there from Oregon and Rich made it all the way from AZ... NO excuses next year!! The drives and the scenery were incredible and second to none, and it was so nice to meet & talk to everyone that attended, new friendships were made. I had the honor of taking Gerorge around on most of his photo shoots and had a great time attacking some of the drive routes solo in an effort to get ahead of the pack in order to get some of the shots you will see. What great fun, and George was a great sport as I know it isn't easy being a passenger in a car in that situation at times! Nicole, you should see MY car now... you shouldn't have thrown out the bath water!

Tell us who's who in the pics so we can put faces to names. BTW it looks gorgeous up there! Do the sharks run any different at that altitude?

Wow,

Thanks for all of the kind words. We had a great time hosting the event and plan on making it an annual thing, probably this same weedend every year. Thanks go out also to Nicole (Hooked on Cars) and Mark & Susan Thomas (DEVEK) for their generous donations. To George for taking the photos (and getting on top of my house for the final photo of the day) and to everyone who went out of there way to drive all the way up here.

We had 928's from Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. We had more spouses and S/O's than I have ever seen at an event and we even got to verify visually that Bill Ball has a wife. Nice lady by the way. We learned that Chris Ott has a gambling problem and will be checking into a gambling recovery center shortly, if Louie can find her. We verified that Keiths Grand Prix White GTS is really not the right color after all. Mine is We finally got to see the infamous Nevada COD car that Jim was trying to get registered. He was successful last week and is now legal. After two days of driving around the Sierras I figured out Bill Swift doesn't like to be last in line. Thanks to all of the people that helped us out with setting up and packing boxes.

We had 34 for dinner at the Tahoe Biltmore. During the entire weekend we had no major mishaps, (I will get my wheels and tires back, right Gerry ) except for an unrepairable flat on Sunday morning. Everyone learned a bit about Tahoe with our "Tahoe Fast Facts" and prizes for the closest answers. Congratulations to the winners of the poker hands and the raffle prizes. Our special award winners Bob Jones and Marc Thomas (enough about that ) by the way they are available at Macy's at Christmas time for those of you that asked.

Statistics for Sharks at the Lake:
60 cans of Beer
3 cases of water
6 cases of sodas
8 bottles of red wine
2 bottles of white wine
Bags full of nuts, chips, cheese, fruit, dips, bagels, pastery, veggies, snacs, on and on
88 hot dogs
2 gallons of broccoli salad
3 gallons of baked beans
2 watermellons
4 giant bags of chips
and best of all

38 Happy people for lunch.

Back to work for me. I'll check in later.

Randy can you pin this for about a week for folks to post their comments and pictures?

Later

Bill,

Thanks for the rides, it's easier to take the good photos when I'm not driving.

Here's Bill cleaning the windows on the photographer's ride.

First off...the folks between Tahoe and L.A. shouldn't have a flying insect problem for about a week or two as they all seem to be on the front of my car!

Secondly, my car is Grand Prix White before the race and Tim's is Grand Prix White after. If anyone ever wondered if paint colors varied by the same name, we are here to tell you, THEY DO! We had both cars next to each other and there is a noticable difference.

We had a wonderful time this weekend. Great folks, great conversation , great drives with Vista Grande's and great food and drink. It was nice to see folks we have known and always nice to see the new ones.

Very good job to you and Cheryl, Tim. Very nice planning and accomadations. ....might just have to make a motion to put you on the Sharktoberfest planning committee Fun little tid bits at the dinner!

We managed to get back to the house in 7 hours. (eh hem...some of you may have seen a white flash on the 80 west at one point ) However, that thing they call I 80 is a piece of SH*T!!!!!!! Some of you folks up there may want to contact your local politicians and make them aware of this Cluster F***!

Congrats and thanks to all for making it a great weekend and I am sure Jennifer and I will see nearly all of you again in August at DEVEK Days.

Those who missed out, missed out big.

Oh Yeah...Sharkbait. To answer your questions...performance is definitely hindered up at that altitude.

As for the faces in the group shot, here is the best I can recollect...I am terrible at remembering names

left to right:
Bill Swift, Louie Ott with wife in front of him, Rich and Betsy Andrade with Mel Marzan and wife behind them. Next to Rich and Betsy is Nicole, then Cheryl and Tim Dey, Brian (Iceman) with wife in front. I don't recall the name of the fellow in the black hat from Norcal with his wife. After them is Jennifer and I with me trying to be the center of attention. Then Ron with wife Deb and next to Ron is Dave Anderson, and lastly Bob and wife.

I deeply apologize for all forgotten names, be it first or last or wives....I have a real probelm with retaining names! DOH!

We want to add our thank you for the great job Tim & Cheryl did hosting the 1st Annual "Sharks on the Lake" event, to George for the fantastic pictues and to the sponsers for their contribution. We really enjoyed meeting new friends and seeing some familiar faces. Thanks to Bill Swift and Mel & Mary for escorting us almost all the way home. We'll be getting that radiator fixed ASAP. Anyone who meant to come but didn't make it really missed out on an incredible weekend.
Thanks again,
Ron & Debbie

Here is a link to the Photo Gallery I posted:

http://sis125.berkeley.edu/928/2005-SharksAtTheLake/

I put around 680 photos in the gallery, you'll probably get tired of seeing the backend of a 928 driving down the road, but I don't have time right now to
do any serious culling (already took out 300 photos)...

Keith
I did managed to see a brief glimpse of a low flying white plane that zoomed past around auburn....however I was too delirious from all the bumps and snow chain rattles to notice...you are right the traffic was almost as bad as the road! Odd I didn't recall such a rough road on the way to Tahoe?

But did you make it home unscathed? So 7 hours for about 520 miles...nice 75 average including stops! I was happy with my 2:25:00 time from Tims house to my door (160 miles= 67mph)

I will return for the Second annual Sharks at the Lake for sure!
Brian
