good question chaadster, but no, mine has a new Audi valve and since upping my freon on the weekend, it's ICE cold... It's only when the windows/sunroof are open that I get the heat. I think I'm going to find something stuff the tunnel...

That foam piece (part 32 above) is expensive and requires TT removal to replace. Do something else to seal the area until there is another reason for TT removal.

I will check my A/C again, but last time I used it very cold air was coming out. Long ago the PO had some radar detector warning lights installed on the plastic piece surrounding the shifter. When I looked under the console as part of window switch, shift boot, 12/24 clock work I thought it looked a little sparse. I will pursue the foam on top/underneath approach to see if things change. Thanks to everyone for advice and help.
