Default Need a picture of an 87 or later head

I am having an issue getting a new cam chain tensor to work on my 86. I ordered the superseeding part....to later find out that I needed new a new oil line because the fittings on the old tensor and oil line was larger than the new tensor. Here is the problem. The oil line that worked on the 86 would work on the newer style tensor if the fitting was the same size....but of course it not. When I say work.... mean it would mount to the head and mount to the tensor with no problems....the bends are perfect. I called 982INTL and the used oil lines they have for an 87 up...will not work because the fitting that hooks up to the tensor is off by 90 degrees compared to the 86 oil line that I have....which again wont fit because the fitting it not the same size. So basically.....I am screwed. Porsche superseeded the parts.....but I dont think they will work on the 86...at least that is what I have determined. Does anyone have an 87 up engine with the drivers side cam cover off that can take a picture of the cam tensor and oil lines to see how they run in the head and where they hook up?

Thanks

I'm not sure why you can't exchange the part. My PET says the numbers for the connecting "pipe," which is a metal oil line under the tensioner (tensor?) 85/86 is 928 105-213-02 (cylinders 1-4) and 214 for cylinders 5-8. HTH.

Not unless you sneaked into my garage and replaced the heads from my '89GT with some from an '86. He asked for pics of '87 or newer....

so, do i have 86 style oil lines????

my heads are 87(ish) ( i think??) at least by the casting numbers and the fact that there are no bearings at the back engine part of the cams. Looks like my oil lines are at a different angle

The picture WORF928 posted confirms that the oil line hooks up to the head in a different location. Based off the picture, the oil line connects to he head on the bottom side. On my 86 Drivers side head...the oil line connects to the top side of the head. I went ahead an ordered the one that mounts to the bottom. I hope that the oil line can be placed on the tensor the opposite way in order to mount to the top side of the head. I assume the tensor mounts dead center in the head...therefore should be the exact length from the tensor to the top or bottom of the head. I will post the results of my unahppiness tommorow when the part delivers. Thanks WORF928!!!!!!!!

I may have some lines if you need them from the old style tensioner.

Good luck.

So, if Worf928's pics are for the S4, what do mine look like. 86 and earlier? or something different all together?

I dunno. I've never seen the top off on an 85-86 32V.

I'm not convinced that the picture you posted is different from mine. Here's another angle of my '89.

The only difference in the 85/86 heads compared to later 87 and up...is the tensor is different (has a larger top pad). The other major difference is the oil line on the 85/86 goes up under the top cam and attaches to the head. 87 and up....the oil line goes under the the lower cam and hooks to the head on the bottom. My mechanic called me today and said my car was ready. He had to monkey with the oil line from an 87 to fit on my 86...but got it to work. I trust he knows what he is doing since everytime I go by there..he always has 1-2 928's in the lot working on them.
