Default HID"s on 928's

I put an HID set on my fog lights months ago, nobody gave a crap. Love it, highly recommended. I used a simple McCollough (sp?) kit off ebay for $300

Question

I must have missed your post on those. Any more details? I can't find it on e-bay.

Think any H3 HID kits will work on the fogs.
Search for "H3 HID" on ebay. Probably want to stick with
the name branded ones. Better quality bulbs and ignitors.

David Roberts posted some time ago that the S4 foglight/harness can
handle 80W bulbs. Been running a set of Xenon 80W H3 in the fogs
for 2 months. Good but nothing crazy like the HID's in brightness.

Still tempted to run a set of auxiliary HID driving lights in the shark
maw someday. Though that will probably exceed the legal limit of
forward facing lights in some states.

After seeing his car Saturday night. Those puppies are bright and lit the road up in front of me at 2 AM. I could also have enough light in my car to see the CD player easier to change out the CD inside

I'd like to get this kit once I get my 928 back on the road.

Nope, I have H5's, I had H4's on a previous 928 and miss them. These HID's are brighter.

I am also interested in the question of how a single (or especially dual)beam HID setup in an H4 works wrt beam pattern - does the pattern stay the same with clean knife edge on low/dipped mode - the placement of the filament vs arc seems crucial to this..? anyone done it?

The H4 kit does have both high and low beam but the H5 kit is only low beam. I am glad to hear how well it worked in the H5 and I bet the H4 wil be even better.

Mark, I see that you do not yet have pics of the kits on your site. Can you please post an update here when pics are available? Dimensions on the ballasts would be cool too...

Dave, the ballasts are @ 3"X4"X1", so they're really easy to hide away near the headlights.

Mark, any chance that the bulbs in the H4 kit will work as a replacement for the bulbs in the H5 kit? Will the manufacturer sell the bulbs separately?

If my H5's take H4 bulbs, what am I missing? why wouldnt the typical H4 retrofit kit work in my H5's? Yes, my H3 kit is a basic off-ebay kit for $300 or so (or it was...prices coming down).

The H4 bulb isn't what makes the difference, it's the pattern the headlight lens creates that makes them special. The H5 makes kind of a blob & seems to disperse the light whereas the H4 makes a distinct, focused horizontal pattern that works much better. Perhaps someone on the list has some pictures of the H4 pattern...
