Default Aero mirror wiring to OB

Okay gang-
On a whim, I recently purchase the aero mirror upgrade kit from Jim B. I've always liked the look of them I think my car will look "killer" once I put them on. So I've finally completed painting them and the bases are now connected and the old mirrors are off the car. All that's really left is to wire them and secure them. That's my problem, I'm not sure how the wires are supposed to go. Anyone here BTDT? Here's the problem:

On the OB there are basically, 5 wires (plus one jumper not shown - ground I think).

But on the new motor assembly there are 10 (plus two for the heated mirror).

And while I'm at it here... does anyone know what the black connector with the 2 purple wires is for?

I know I can figure it out by using a DMM if needed, but if someone here already knows it would be a BIG help.

The aero mirrors are set up with the memory function, tis why it has so many wires. I *think* we can ignore the memory wires and just hook up those that are required for mirror movement and defrost. I'm definately interested as I'll be installing aero's on both of my cars.

Well there's a pretty good write up out there already. It's especially good on the assembly side. Aero mirror writeup. The problem is that the wiring is different on the 928/MY. Hence my question. If you could PM me Marc's info I'd appreciate it, but otherwise I'll spend some quality time with my DMM this weekend.

Spoke with Marc... his are manual right now. He asked me to tell him when I get it figured out... So the request stands.
Anyone, Do you know how to wire these guys to an OB? I'm going to consultthe GTS wiring diagrams to see if there is anything there.

Up to 1986, the mirrors used a different adjustment motor system. They used a solenoid to activate a switching gear for vertical movement instead of reversing polarity on two different planes (motors).

To properly wire a set of Aero's up, you will need a motion and change over switch from a later car and some wiring mods. It's not impossible but not simple either. I may do a write-up on how to complete it later giving part #'s and all but I have too many projects in line at the moment.

The two purple wires are for the outside temp sensor, not used in earlier cars.

Give me a call sometime this weekend and I'll walk you through it.

BTW, I do have a quick/easy wiring diagram for non-memory S4's. Memory equipped cars can use the write-up in the 928 Forum magazine, it covers the procedure quite well.

You got it Dave. I'll definately call you. I think I see the unit you are referring to in the wiring diagram (from 1982).

Andrew,

Glad you got in touch with Marc. You beat me to the punch.(Work getting in the way of Rennlist again!!)

I'm surprised 928 Intl doesn't have the diagram. I do know that some people have used the old guts out of the flag mirrors and just wired them back up the same way inside the new mirrors. Didn't Chris Ford do that?? It sounds a hell of a lot easier to me and then you just sell the new motor/transmission to someone on the Rennlist to recoup some cost. I've even thought about buying a pair of used Aeros off a 911 or 968 because there's got to be many out there, buy the 928 bases, and then use the guts out of my 79 flag mirrors. Just a thought. Anyhoo, I digress.

Good luck on the project and please post pics when you finish up!

I think it was $465 from 928 Int'l (including glass) - or maybe it was $495. Plus $45 for spray paint from paintscratch.com. The color matches great, but we'll have to see how it buffs out and holds up.

I'll let EVERYONE know when I get it figured out. I may have to settle for manual mirros for SITM, but they will be on there for sure!
