Default Best modification for under $100.

I imagine there are many inexpensive shortcuts and improvements that Rennlisters have made, but not always shared with other members. It would be interesting to see what others have come up with.
Here is one of mine: tired of the wooden fuse cover refusing to stay in the "up" position, I separated it from the side panel, and hinged it at the bottom, instead of the top. Now, I just reach up with my hand to pull it down. I have taped a list of fuses and relays to the board, so it is always to hand.

That's one of those ideas that makes me wonder why the Porsche engineers didn't do it that way in the first place!

May be because there is no chance of the board falling on eth passenger's legs in case carpet is off?? Just giving them the benefit of the doubt.

My modification is even cheaper. Remove the hinges altogether...you can take out the panel out of the way when you need access....makes a huge difference

And Tarek would know, he's in that fuse panel often...

That's the way my 78 works... I haven't seen any evidence of hinges. I find the hinge at the top on later cars very annoying. Every time I dig into that part of a later car I feel like a proctologist.

My 83 has no sign of hinges.....that I can see anyway. But the fuse/relay diagram is something I will copy. Maybe laminated to make it more durable. I think we are all sure to be in there again.....

Same here on my MY91 S4 EURO... No hinges what so ever. Could it be a EURO/US thing?

For my car I reformatted the fuse/relay chart from 928Specialists into a one pager that prints up nicely. Anyone with an '82 is welcome to it:

Interesting little model variations. My cars all have the annoying hinge atop. 85US; 85Euro; 86US; 87US

No sign of hinges on my fuse cover...

My vote for the best mod for under $100 goes for fitting a 33 Bar Brake Bias Valve, and binning the 18 Bar that's standard on an S4. This transformed the braking on my car, the rears hardly got warm before, now the brake temps front and rear seem very similar, and the car feels much more stable under braking. Even in the wet I've not had any problems, so I'm really puzzled as to why Porsche were so conservative.

Quick Reply: Best modification for under $100.
