Speedomoter blues
On the 35th mile driving the car for the first time the speedomoter went to "0" This since I bought a low mileage car and now I am not sure what the mileage is. The speedometer is intermittent, it seems. I hit a bump and it started working again. I made a left turn and it quit. I made a right time and it started again.
Question 1: Anybody have this problem and what was the resolution.
Question 2: Where on the transmission is the sender.
Question 3: I wonder if this could be a ground problem and where is the most likley ground affecting this circuit?

Jeez, don't fix it! You'll get more when you sell the car!

I hit the three plugs in back with contact cleaner. I couldn't get the two wire black plug apart but squirted down the four holes. Took her for a drive and it was working. I don't have a lot of confidence it will continue to work and don't look forward to 450 miles to Banner Elk, NC, down Interstate 81, one of the longest speed traps around. Last ticket for speeding was in a speed zone and was doubled up. Cost enough to make a nice car payment on a BMW (if I was so inclined).

See? There ya go! You fixed it, now you don't have a great, built-in excuse when Mr. Trooper pulls you over!

And it probably wouldn't work for 125 in a 65. If there hadn't any traffic around to pass and you can get the judge to come for a ride, you might convince the court about 100 in a 65. ;-)

John;
Is it the speedometer only or is it the speedometer AND odometer?
In the spare tire well there is a grey plastic cover (forward area), this covers the connectors for the speed sensor. Check to make sure there is good contact there.
That car needs to be driven to scare the gremlins away!! Case in point; I took my GTS out yesterday (first time in months) and nothing on the left side of the dash worked. Got to the end of the street and turned around to park it when all of a sudden everything came back to life.
Scott
p.s never, never use the trip odometer reset button!! Odometers have a tendency to stop working if you do...and the plastic drive gears are expensive.
