Default side view mirror...

Just noticed yesterday that my driver's side side view mirror was falling out. I pulled it the rest of the way off. Behind it I expected to find some clips or velcro or something. There were none, and no real traces of glue to be seen on the backside of mirror. Behind the mirror is a smooth backing plate, which is still there, and operates fine when I adjust the motor. How does the mirror go back on? Does it snap on or something? If I need to use glue, what kind should I use? Thanks in advance . Dave(Boston) 88S4

I had a similar problem, and just used a good silicone based glue/sealer - no more "flapping" mirror glass.

On an '88, the back side of the mirror should have two push pins for the heating element - and most importantly, an ~ 3" diameter black plastic locking ring.
If this is still cemented to the mirror glass, a slight rotation of the toothed ring allows it to engage locking tabs in the mirror motor plate. A 1/2" spin will lock the bayonet ring.
