I just checked his website and it looks the same as always? It will be a great loss to the 928 community if Andy stops making S/C's. However I can also understand why he would stop as well (especially if he is losing money!!)....still sad though!

If Andy is getting out of the business and anyone is into this enough to buy the tooling I would extend a special Rennlist price for the castings. They would be more costly then mentioned but the quality would be unsurpassed. They can be made in Magnesium also if anyone is interested. It would weigh about 1/3rd of the aluminum weight and with proper heat treatment it would be just about as strong.

Tony do you know if the castings are painted, powder coated or anodized?

If some body pics up the ball in the future, you will be a pretty good reference for all this. Thats the one thing that is so cool about this board...our diverse backgrounds yet our common interest..the 928. The people with their cars is what makes events like SITM,SharktoberFest and DEVEK Days so much fun.
As far as the finish on the casting, thats Andys dept to answer. I chose to poweder coat mine although i think Andy said the metal had been media blasted prior..shot peened or something like that?

Perhaps these pics will help you but Andy is the obvious one to direct these question to and get answer from.
Anyway...Thats how mine was shipped, before powder coating and doing some things.

upper half and lower half

Thats what some appear to be speculating...But I would imagine more than a few welds would be required on a CNC cut unit unless it was done from a rather large block of metal.
My manifold's middle plate was made of 4 water cut pieces that were welded to form a frame, then sandwhiched between a thick upper flat high strength aluminum plate and thinner bottom plate that were cut somehow with bolt and injector holes. The sandwhich was joined with bolts and sealant. No casting. It may be the IC'd manifolds were cast, but Andy told me to convert to IC involved swapping out the bottom plate for the plate that accomodates the IC. Ew, I better check with him to see if I can get one for future upgradeability.

If he has no more available for sale and you can borrow an existing casting, I can always cast from an existing piece and compensate for shrinkage. However you will need to have it machined. This is only as a last resort.

Just a thought.

Well that supercharger looks familiar.

Yeah, if Andy has indeed stopped, quit, hung up his hat whatever, then all I got to say is that sucks! All you fence straddlers are going to be missing out. All you 928 owners with auto trannies are missing out. Even the 5sp owners as far as that goes. The twin screw is a beautiful thing, and having one on my car makes me proud. We all got a good, yes good, price for what we got. It could have easily been priced comparable to the Murf kits at $8500 dollars. It would have made a lot of us pause, before dropping an extra couple of grand. But Andy at the time was having fun, and sharing that fun with the rest of us at less than cost. Now it has lost that fun factor! I don't blame him one bit, WE as 928 owners are a very demanding group! We have stepped into supercars for CHEAP and expect supercar like products for cheap and in doing so drive people like Andy to the edge. Yes WE did this to him! So how do we give back to him in kind? More demands, more requests for "free support", or do we look for a way to reward him for advancing our cars into the 21st century? Lets' do something for him for once!

I hope this is not so.

I suppose I fall into the category of a fence sitter...But I am working on getting the exhaust right and had then planned on moving into a STM 6 set up as a good foundation to the Supercharger before taking the leap.

I hope Andy is not done.

Regards,

Ken

Didn't he make a deal with Devek?

If so, maybe he passed the torch to them.

One way of getting out of the business...

I'll be darned. www.928supermodel.com website is back to normal? I could have sworn that over the course of the last several weeks to a month that this only takes you to his forums.

I swear, I have been laying off the lime juice lately.

Guys, I wonder if we are doing good or harm with this thread? There is evidence here and there, but much of this is speculation.

The thought of no more top-mounted supercharger kits is alarming. Perhaps we are creating a buzz that will rekindle sales interest. Perhaps we are recklessly speculating about someone's personal and business affairs and should maybe wait for facts to present themselves.

I dunno.

I guess that I am done with this and will wait for an official spokeperson's virtual press conference.

Has anybody who deals with or talks to Andy regularly called him to ask? All this speculation is pointless.
