Jager Sill Plate Inlays Wow !

Just installed the Sill Plate Inlays on my car. Very easy install and a nice improvement over the stock clear plastic lettering. I ordered mine in Chrome.

They look much better than the Jager photos on the web site; more like the photo for the GTS which shows raised letters. They're made of clear vinyl with a 3M adhesive backing, so they actually looks like beads of water on a chrome plate.

I just ordered a pair for my car - I think they look particularly good on darker colored cars, or when the clear plastic has started to get yellow, or when there is dirt underneath the clear that you can't get to. Can't wait to get mine!

One of the benefits of having a Chiffon Yellow car is that even if the sills do yellow, you don't notice it. :D

But I have seen these on other cars and they do look very nice.

sublimate 05-17-2005 09:57 AM

Is it the whole door sill or just the numbers (or letters for GTS)?

I've seen both. What's referrenced here is just the numbers (or letters for the GTS). I have also seen entire stanless sills that look very nice - but I don't know if these come from Jager or not.

deliriousga 05-17-2005 10:59 AM

Put them in about a month ago and they make a huge difference. The dirt that would show under the clear numbers is gone and the aluminum numbers really stand out!

SharkSkin 05-17-2005 12:18 PM

I put a set of brushed aluminum numbers in mine... love it. They were kind of boring with black behind them... not anymore!

Gretch 05-17-2005 12:40 PM

Pictures anyone? I have been toying with putting a guards red backgroung under my clear lettering, but I am open to other suggestions.......

I ordered my two years ago and finally put them on about 3 months ago. I ordered the gold. It was funny because I could make one set fit perfectly but not the other. Email them and she said I probably got a set of the one cut which didn't fit right, so they set me a new set for free. Except the new set was brushed aluminum. So, I decided to put the Gold on driver side and aluminum on the passage side. Call me crazy but I like it. ;) I really like both of them so I put both on them on.

Gretch - Hows this?

Gretch 05-17-2005 01:09 PM

Attsa Nice. on my way to the site now.........

ROG100 05-17-2005 01:25 PM

Gretch,
Sorry I hope I did not add confusion to the thread.
My modification was a good quality piece of paper sprayed red and inserted under the sill and not Jager.
Cheap, easy and effective.

Here's mine. On Silver the only difference is the brushed finish and you don't see the dirt spots that collect under the clear plastic.

Quite the contrary. Thanks for the clarification, I am back to my original idea.......

Anyone know where to get the full door sills? I searched, but only came up with this place: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/eagleday/92dosipl.html but they're surely just confusing the 928 with a 924 (horrors!) in the title.

bwebb77 05-17-2005 03:08 PM

There were some for sale on Ebay last week. I don't know if they're still for sale.

That's what I did......get a nice piece of colored cardboard (thin) from the art store and cut out a rectangle a little larger than the "928". Give the clear 928 a good cleaning, us a bit of tape to either hold it on the molding or the door frame itself and your done. Looks great (sorry no pix) and you can really find a color to your liking.

Schocki 05-18-2005 12:05 AM

That's what I did just to be different too....

Schocki, pretty interesting. Were did you tap into for the power?

BTW is your GTS a euro model?

Schocki 05-18-2005 12:41 AM

Hooked it up to the interior light.

Yes it's the only 1992 GTS in the states that is not federalized and there are only two 92' GTS in the US currently. James owns the other one. I will take my GTS back to Europe when my tour here is over, back on the Autobahn were it belongs

cobalt 05-18-2005 12:44 AM

Cool, Great color choice. ;)

Alan 05-18-2005 01:26 AM

Jari - car looks great - I don't like the Jager knobs etc usually but all together it looks very sharp!

Schocki - Great Minds huh!

Here is mine also with EL strip - mine is bright yellow - I claim victory since I installed mine in spring 2001! I did have to redo one side due to moisture getting into the EL strip (part of it just goes dead (dark when illuminated) - second time around I laminated it out passed the edges to prevent that.

On a black or dark car the idea of having body color show through really isn't worth a damn! Black letters on a Black plate = nothing to see.

Dayligtht view:

Nightime view (its actually the same yellow color):

I thought at first it might look cheap & tacky but - I really like the look & everyone who has seen it loves it.

justin 05-18-2005 04:03 AM

Is that EL tape wide enough to do the older models witht the numbers?

Schocki 05-18-2005 09:19 AM

Justin,
We had the discussion before and they are not wide enough. But if you check Ebay there are also panels sold in differnet sizes. As long as you keep the cables on these you can cut them in any shape. It is important that you seal the cut edges with a good tape to prevent damage by moisture.

Alan 05-18-2005 11:38 AM

Justin,
Try DigiKey for bigger panels. There are other places that do them too
try Mouser Electronics, RadioSpares (RS) in the UK etc.

For the small GTS panels I used All Electronic Corp who do a bunch of salvage/resale as well as new - they sometime have some interesting deals - all one time things though - a place to check out from time to time if you are a "tinkerer".

Bigger panels get expensive. Some come with multiple edge connections so you can slice them up into multiple useful pieces (saves $$).
