pic of wild Swiss 928 on Italian autostrada
1 Attachment(s)
Just got back from Italy, which I drove from south to north, every mile of which I wished to be in the 928!
Anyway, here's a quick in-motion pic of an S model shark with a pretty wild paint job. Sorry for the sole snapshot, but I was struggling to get close enough to it in the tiny 1.2L Lancia diesel I was driving! |
Coool pic.
Nicely done paint job. Wonder what the colors signify. Like how they echoed the B-pillar swoop. Guess you're flogging that 1.2 liter diesel. 3500 redline? Drove a 1.1 liter Fiat ages ago in Europe. Engine displacement the size of a soda pop bottle. What a hoot. Ernest (NYC) |

3500 redline? Ernest (NYC) Yeah, that sucker took a beating, alright! I knocked out about 2400K in two weeks, and was always flat out (just about!). I was surprised that peak torque seemed to be around 3500rpm as you say, but that it would rev up to about 4500rpm pretty easily. Here's another pic of the pursuit; though blurry, it does show the speedo in the Lancia at 150... okay, kph! I could squeeze her on the flats for 160kph, but that's it!! |
Hmmm... I don't like this at all... I neither like the colors chosen, nor the way the stripes flow, as they do not really follow the B pillar very closely. I think this is a clear example of more is not always better.

LHD in Itay?
|
I'm guessing center console.

Is that Starski or Hutchski?
The german Torino! thats the first thing i thought of when i saw it. Looks in great shape though  A unique find, thats for sure! Whats the scrolling/lettering on the corner of the red stripe? |

Definitely an S, not S4. Check out the painted front spoiler.

This is likely a '78 or '79. Look at the front ride height.
|
It has S front spoiler.
|
Curt, the whole body is modded man :D
|
Where? I only see the edge of what looks like an "S" spoiler and a set of side skirts. Looks like one wing or spoiler on the back?
|
The window trims are chrome. Wouldn’t that make it an early (78-80) model?
|
For those interested in determing the model year, perhaps a few more of my observations would help....
I had said it was an S because of the front spoiler, and that the rear bumper cover had the S on it. I also noticed that there were cooling/air flow slits behind the rear wheels, facing rearward. I don't know the older models so well, but I thought it looked like it had some mild fender flares. It also had the rear, independent fog light. I don't know if that is a clue or not. Also, the front fog/parking and rear lights seemed small, like they had a white decal overlay on them that matched the body color. Don't know if that helps... |

I looked at a Toyota that had a similar arrangement. I was told by the salesman that studies were done that people learning how to drive found it better to look to the sides for their instruments than to look through the wheel. I thought that was BS, personally. |
Ah the Toyota Echo - My friend had a new one a few years ago. It was a terrible car to ride in and worse to drive. Having the speedo in the middle of the dash is very annoying. My friend said he never go used to it. He hated the car and got rid of it quick.

An upgraded 1980 928 from Carelli had this done to the rear valance/bumper cover.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/wd1157carellirear.jpg The Carelli also had the wiremesh BBS style wheels. Ernest (NYC) Wonder who made the body kit? |

Anyway, that's an 86.5 or earlier rear bumper. I have no doubt of that. To me, the difference is obvious even in a small, blurry pic. I doubt that many people put the earlier bumper on a later car. |
