Rear Speaker Depth
What is the maximum depth for the rear 4 inch speakers for my GTS? Anybody know off hand?

Really shallow......and I do mean shallow.....like 1.3" max. Nothing aftermarket will fit that I know of except maybe a 3.5" or a tweeter. If you want to go any deeper you will have to use a spacer ring which IMO looks crappy. If you replace the 6.5" and tweeter with good quality stuff with good power you will never miss that speaker at all.

I have just replaced the speakers on both my 89 S4 and my GTS.
The 4" speakers in the doors and the rear are identical from the factory in both cars.
They are all 4 Ohm speakers. The four tweeters are 3 Ohm and the 6.5" are 2 Ohm - go figure!!!
The factory speaker has a mounting depth of 1.5" when measuring the speaker.
I fitted Blaupunkt speakers with a mounting depth of 1.63". I think the max you could get in the back would be 1.7" MD.
They were PCX 402 and sound great. I am not an audiophile - just want to listen to reasonably priced music.
I remember seeing a lot of 4" speakers that would fit.
I used the original grill after removing the mounting ring from the original speaker.
Very quick and reasonably priced upgrade.

Thanks Roger. My PO has already 'modified' the doors to mount deeper speakers. Makes me sick to think about it. I am trying to se if MB Quart PCE 210 4' speakers will fit with out a spacer.
