Is there a Nurburgring time for a fast 928 model (GT, GTS, SE or Club Sport) on today's tires?

"OR the M5 was out of tune?"

I highly doubt the M5 was out of tune. There isn’t much that can be done as a routine tune-up on those cars. Coil over plug configurations and the plugs probably have a life span of 100K miles. Everything is digitally controlled and most of the sensors compensate for engine age as they get older. Very high tech and self sufficient system. On top of it, the oldest of them would be only 4 years old.

My car is for some odd reason a lot faster than other 85 928s. It was fast even before my modifications. I’m not quiet sure why, but probably is a “factory freak”.
